Setting Up TFC server

I have been trying to set up a TFC server for a group of guys at work have failed miserably. Its not a lan connection, we're using ISDN (high speed cable).

First time I tried i was running the hlds.exe and tried looging into my own game to no avail. Came up with could not connect to the server.

Some questions I'll pose then I'll go from there:

Can I use my home PC as the server and log into the game with the same PC?

Where do I get more info on how to setup the server file so that logging in with a password is a must?

Are there better setup instructions anywhere out there?

Do I have to get anything else from WON or Valve to setup the server?

Thats it for now, look forward to any and all replies.

Thanks in advance.

Minimum upload recommended is 512K - you have 64 or 128 (twin ISDN)
The proxy will also add to the stress.
Good luck

You'd want at least ADSL or Cable for a game of 6 people and no, you can't access a dedicated server on the same machine.

You can :)

Just change your client port number, server lags like hell though as your using it serve and play

Apparently you lag more if u use 128k ISDN than if u used 64k

Thanks!

Thanks to all of you who answered my post, I guess I'll be looking into setting up or aquiring space on a server instead. I guess my high speed cable internet access isn't going to cut it

Its not high speed cable you have.
You have ISDN which is a max speed of 128k.

Cable is what alot of people have now but even that cant cut it. Its because most cable users upload at only 128k and download at 512k. Im a cable user and host a hlds sometimes when I want to play with a few mates. I limit the server to 5 people as my cable cant upload enough and lags if I go beyond 5. When they bring out 512k/512k I think there will be more chance we can run our own servers. But it looks like its gonna be a while b4 this happens :(

Take a look their for cable, although NTL may not be in your area yet.

Having played on many a cable and adsl hosed server I can tell you not to bother.

To get any kind of decent performance with 5 or 6 people on both connections the max rate has to be severly limited, this ruins the gameplay experience.

The only real use is for map run arounds for tactics and positioning.
