You'll need some sort of gateway software on the PC connected to the cable modem - I used to use Winroute before I got me router/firewall (Belkin do one for about £50 in PC World). Once setup as per instructions, set the default gateway on the other machines as the internal IP address of the cable connected PC. Job done :)

Yes I received another copy of my old friend w95.CIH today... granted I doubt it does Fuck all on XP (or rather NT Based OS's) but still norton picked it up and sodomised it with a chainsaw.... the bitch cost me £85 to replace me mobo in an older comp several years back... when I was less computer Savy and also dumb enough to download shit loads of emulators and roms (for evaluation purposes you understand :p) with no virus protection software...

ANTI-VIRUS.... FIREWALL.... ARMED GUARDS... WATCHDOGS.... TESLA COILS!

GET THEM ALL!

possibly, yes. or a small [old] pc running as a router/firewall with a *cough* proper os. might even save you the cost of a router.
some of the people here have the one, others opt for the other.

I'd agree with the old PC and linux option. I'm currently using a P133 with 64megs of RAM as a Linux router, with IpCop as the distro.

I've also got a 3Com hardware router - the only advantage I'd say its got over IPCop is the size of the thing. IPCop really is amazing.

Yup - I have it working with my Cisco Catalyst switch no problem, and a crappy 4 port Netgear hub before that.
