Alright I am a dumbass, I admit it. It's a fookin simple question but just need some advice from someone more intelligent then myself (not that hard :( )

Q. Where Z is the set of integers, is Z = {Z} ?

I was thinkin no, as {Z} is a set containing the element Z, whereas Z contains all integers (-1, 0, 1, 2 etc) so the two sets are not equal.

I know it's simple as fuck but just want someone else to take a look at it :/

This is what I would have said....but I have not done this type of maths in eons...

But then again they could be equal cos

Z is a set of Integers and

{Z} is a set of a Set of integers...

I dunno... :wall:

Yeah annoying isn't it. It's one of those simple starter questions that they might put on a paper but I'm just not sure about it :/

OK, a bit of research turns up:
If x is a set then the set containing x is written as {x}.

Therefore the answer to the question would be yes since defining Z as the set of integers simply means that the notation {Z} is used from then on, ie. {Z} is the set defined by the phrase "Z is the set of integers".
