Server Problem?

I'm having problem with the BW/UT servers. About oonce every 2/3 days they will all suddenly start pinging in at 300+, I am on NTL cable, and usually ping at around 60 on these same servers. NGI servers are ok, but Demon are not (are Demon servers hosted by BW?).

The problem is occuring right now, and this proves it would be a problem on CTF league night. I want to get it resolved ASAP, as it is really beginning to bug me.

I sent NTL a shittly email, and was wondering if the problem is with them, or just the servers.

HELP!!!!!!

It is NTL i think, they have a problem with their routers.

Make a traceroute, and find out which servers are lagging you.

I have cable, too (in Portugal), and it sucks.

In order to play in the NGI servers, "I" have to pass through 23 hops... I goes from Portugal->New York->Miami->London->Amesterdam->Frankfurt->Milan->NGI

The result is a "nice" 300ms ping, 20/30% pl.

Also in Wireplay, i suffer from this mad race. Portugal->New York->Miami->Uk->Wireplay. Another 200+ ping, 20/30pl

Jolt servers are equal. Only in BW is a little different. It's more direct, but I still get lagged. :(

I remember all the chello d00ds trying to play in BW leagues with 2000 ping :)

hell yeah... one day, all the WP, Jolt & BW servers will be located in Portugal... That would be a day! :)

Still, we have like 25 UT servers in Portugal, belonging to 4 ISP's. My ISP (Cable) had 3... but didn't had a single maintenance in 1 f0cking year! (It was running v405b for 8months, and it wasn't on Hardcore, FFS!!). They, of course, shut it down.

In all others, I play with 200ms ping and a nice pl of 15/20%. (Yes, they're are fisically located across the river, in Lisbon. My packages go through 8hops, and still, the connection is a f0ckin shit). As you can see... I'm desperated as hell. :(

well it seems the prob is the connection between ntl and level three.
looks [at first glance] like the level3 box is being pushed too hard, but it could be anything really ie. the connection between the two boxes, the time of day, some &^$*%# downloading an .iso, you name it.

personally I suspect that the ntl-uplink [the #5 hop] isn't the only thing connected to the level3 machine but who knows.

for what it's worth: my ping to the level3 box averages 80ms and to the ntl box behind it [as seen from me:I'm in holland] I average 130ms.

Try asking someone in #barrysworld if he knows of any probs with NTL connects at level3.

Can I just say.. it is 100% certain that it is not NTL but Barrysworld that is at fault. Ther is not 1 SINGLE PLAYER(!!) that I know of that can play on Barrysworld with playable pings.

Something has screwed it up and needs to be sorted. With the BW leagues coming up next week, the whole thing will be cancelled from unplayable pings.

Its gotta be BW :)

Most likely its the CSHP4c that has been installed, that gives lag to ppl. On the MC clanserver I dosping well, and my F1 ping is 90-100, but my F6 ping is 250 (where it should be 130-140 or so) so the problem is at the server and not at any isp.

Dr.Sin himself recommends ppl to downgrade to CSHP4b until 4d is out (very soon), which will most likely solve many of the problems ppl are having these days, ie studdering, lag, powerups always visible, even when they are not there.

NTL is largely (note largely, not totally, some NTL areas seem to be free of issues) fucked to BW, Jolt and any other isp it goes via the main LINX peering to. NTL themselves have acknowledged a problem with the following post from their ntl.announce newsgroup.

"We will be replacing the faulty hardware on our routers at LINX on Tuesday 20th March. This will resolve the current problems of accessing certain websites and online gaming servers.

Customers will continue to experience slow access to some websites and online gaming servers for the duration of the fault."

Whilst it remains to be seen if this will solve all the issues, being an NTL CM user myself i know that the majority of UK game servers are no go areas during peak times at the moment. Which is why i kept my NTL isdn when i got a CM :)
