managed to get to the website quite soon after i was kicked. looks like the french were largely unnaffected, since there were still over 3000 playing, but the german servers had 500 each (roughly) and the english servers were almost depopulated to 200 and 150 respectivly. Wonder where all the money for security and server stability must be going?
That's because french people, being in france, don't go through any routers at the international access point which is where the problem was.
The servers didn't crash. One of GOA's internet service provider's routers crashed. There's nothing GOA can do about that (although Wanadoo is GOA's parent company as well as their ISP so you can blame them if you want).
