i dont know if this will help toht but i used to smoke a lot then when i broke my hand i cut down to 5 a day (mainly because i couldnt roll them lol) any hoo i set times to smoke so after brekkie after lunch one in the late afternoon and 2 in the evening. anyhoo then i got a bit sick of smoking first thing in the morning so i knocked that one off and then i thought i'd just smoke at home so it went down to three in the evening, now i have one after lunch and one in the evening (or when i do an all day shift at work which is twice a week i just have one or two in the evening) i decided i dont want to have to smoke outside (damn smoking ban!) so i'd rather do it in the comfort of my own home and i dont want to stink of fags at work.

setting designated fag times helped me because i wasnt thinking of having my next one all the time, it was just like "ok its not 3pm yet, nm" and jeesus do i save money lol, also i really enjoy my fags now (I always liked them ut when you have stuff al the time you kind of take them for granted)

anyway i found it really easy doing it this way because im not giving up so its no big deal, one day i might just forget to have them all together and stop but 2 a day is fine for me.

So another way of saying "semi quitting" is cutting down ?

Quitting means stopping.

The thing is chronic, the habit of smoking is enjoying the sitting, taking a break from everything, etc.

So i doubt changing it to something so simple would work. Especially since smokes usually help take a break in gaming too.

Not to mention i don't want to change a habit for another habit ;)

Lamp: I said semi-quitting 'cause i know i won't stop smoking or count ciggies while drinking.

I once gave my brother a speech entitled...

"Phallic Objects and Your Mouth: You Dirty Cock Smoker!"

The basic gist was one of latent homosexuality and the desire to have a slim cylinder shoved in his mouth on an hourly basis. It was a long speech, and offensive in places (Only the beginning, the middle and the end), with a lot of the usual NHS Rhetoric and Dogma twisted around in to one fifteen minute gay joke.

He did quit that day, but then learned his missus was pregnant with his second child, and started again 3 months later. Now that he's been fixed, he no longer fears having more children and relaxed enough to quit last Christmas.

It seems to me that people smoke because of anxiety over something. Best advice I can give is "Find whats making you anxious and solve it, then you can quit."

Heh, ironic enough(as this isn't about quitting), i'm cutting down just 'cause i'm bored.

Got no problems, nothing bothering, nothing to learn about myself etc etc. I'm kinda like, "done with problems and life" so now i just have fun and try out stuff :D

Smoking doesn't ease stress in the slightest, having a ciggie may feel like it is making you less stressed but thats because you are feeding a craving.

By the way I sort of like smoking and have now become resigned to the fact that I probably can't/won't quit. A ciggie with a beer is teh sex.

Actually i think it's the "taking a break" that's easing the stress. Smoking is really like a break of everything.

But, yeah, i won't probably quit, don't know if i could, have to see when i get there. There being the day i get bored enough of it :D

I say semi, because i know i'll smoke when i'm drunk. No question, no control at times over such menial things.

But, i was thinking about quitting smoking like "all the time". Just noticed that i'm smoking a bit too much.

Maybe a 5th element "4 ciggies a day" thing would work :D

I don't want to do it for health or other reasons, just think i do it too much.

Suggestions?

And no, "just quit" isn't a sggestion

easy man.
as you may know i stopped smoking regularly some time ago and didnt smoke a single one for months.
simply just stop smoking on a day to day basis. tell your self you will be 'rewarded' or give your self something to look forward to with these suggestions;

either smoke a few once a week, or just when you drink.

now i smoke when i drink, or maybe 1-2 when im on the night changing between day > night shift (like now), just to have a mid working week chillout.

keeping on the legal side of life, its pretty good to drink a bottle of lager and smoke a cig in the garden.
