Selling advice

Well the time has come. I have other computers that serve work purposes etc. Basically I'm not interested in gaming anymore. I plan to spend the money from the machine below on DJ equipment, clubbing and having fun with my girlfriend (travelling next year).

The basic question is how much would I get for this system.

Please be serious as this affects other important decisions I will be making.

If you want to know what system I will be running instead it is a Pentium 233 with 128MB RAM, so fine....

System to be sold.

Intel Celeron 300A @ 450
Abit BH-6 motherboard with BX chipset
64MB PC100 SDRAM
Quantum 6.4GB E-IDE UDMA HDD
Creative Labs TNT 2 Ultra
Diamond Monster II 8MB PCI 3D accelerator card
Iiyama 17” Vision Master Pro 410 monitor
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live 1024
Mitsumi 32x IDE CD ROM drive
Iomega ZIP 100 internal IDE drive
Motorola ModemSurfr V.90 external modem
Panasonic 1.44MB FDD
Logitech Deluxe PS/2 keyboard
Microsoft Explorer USB mouse
Elega CD 8000 speakers
Midi Tower ATX case
Windows 98

Maybe a bit more for the mouse,
I know they are lame in Quake, but it's a new gadget and you could probably charge a little more for it as they are selling for £45 / £50 generally.

k id pay 160 for the monitor... u can prob get em cheaper than 304 if yoo look anywayz...

'TNT2U is 4 weeks old and SB Live is 6 weeks old...'

well I got a tnt2 ultra retail with a free gamepad for 100 sheets last week so 70 is well fair for a second user item.

The sound cards are 39 quid new m8...

Well, comps are always very dodgy in the reselling dept.
My tnt2u cost me 93 quid (oem tho) inc vat, 17" screen i picked up for 140 new.
I have seen explorer mice at a trade price of just over 6 quid. Think about that when you see it at 50 in pc world eh :p

Best bet would be to sell yer screen seperatly anyway, dunno if you got another 14" stashed somewhere, if so should be pretty easy to shift some of yer bits
Tugs offer of 150 is a fair one, second hand screens, no matter how old just have something about them - The amount of time they have been used helps, as time goes on, the picture gets a subtle softness to it, after a coupla years screens tend to be somewhat more blurred then the crisp picture you get after buying it the first time.

Get an ad in your local rag, sell it as an ideal family machine that plays all the latest games well, and suits anyones needs.
Otherwise, dunno if you get it where you are, there is an advertising paper called Loot. Only 50p i think, just shitloads of adverts - stick an ad in there.
Or go to Cash Converters or similar shop, they might giveya 100 for it all

Yeah I'll still come here, it's got that community etc. Plus the fact that there are some other clubbing loons here as well (Tug)!

I'll still pondering the idea, don't get me wrong I love computers but after DJing at house parties, the buzz is much better!! I love my music anyway. Who like the current William Orbit tune with Ferry Corstans storming remix. First time I heard it was at Oakie's Perfecto records party at Southampton Uni. and I went nuts!!

I'm not paying for Bagleys so... but I know the feeling. I've got a house party lined up as well with plenty of alcohol etc...

Can't touch the women though as my honey has gone home to Reading for a couple of weeks and I'm no Bastard!

Either way we will no doubt be bouncing around to some decent TUNES!!!

It's a buyers market...the longer u wait the less it's worth [to someone who knows about computer prices]...ideally, sell it to someone who doesn't fully realise the true depreciation of computer equiptment (whew!!)
...u wouldn't be ripping anyone off by charging say... £700-£800 quid all in...
as a techy I wouldn't pay any more than £600 and that would include the monitor...sorry!
By the way ... Klute's album Casual Bodies is a stone groove man...

Yep that was what I was thinking, sell it at a higher price and see what Joe Public offers.

I'll draw up an add for the New year as I've heard computer sales are low cause of the Y2K issues and so people will buy in the New Year. What makes me laugh is the fact that no components will change from now till January!

Cheers

Just thought I'd nip in with my two pence worth. A general rule of thumb when selling stuff is that the average pay out is 1/3 of the original sales price; and you can haggle from there.

Sadly, the 'its only 4 months old' or whatnot doesn't count.

Just don't go to Cash Perverters, er.. Converters. Those people are the biggest rip offs EVER.
