Up until the last patch I was using Norton Internet Security 2005 without any problems, since the patch however it just won't let me access WOW. I've tried unsuccessfully to configure it with a walkthrough on a link provided by WOW tech support. So rather than risk surfing the net naked can anyone suggest a security package (firewall/anti-virus), that they are using right now that works in conjunction with WOW. Cheers

I use ZoneAlarm Pro, never had a problem, though the latest versions sometimes stuff up the patching process.

id switch norton anyway, most of the real worms and viruses are designed to get passed most norton systems, being one of the most popular anti virus programs on the market

i use kaspersky myself, does the trick, no worms no viruses came past yet, loads of intercepts :)

Firewall's are strange with WoW.

Myself and my son have 2 identical Windows XP installations yet with ZoneAlarm mine works fine yet he gets the Communications problem where everyone shows as Unknown Entity, you can't cast and after 20 seconds you get disconnected. Mine works perfectly.

Incidently our ZoneAlarm is the free version and not the Pro version, so individual programs cannot be configured for specific ports.

In the end I had to uninstall it on his and resort to the build-in XP firewall (as well as the hardware one in my router.)

I'm using same package as you (norton) and it works fine. I just had to alt-tab 1st time because it popped up saying it was blocking and what rule did i want to follow (i.e. allow access). After that, fine.

Norton is pretty crap though when it exists on your machine and you install something else on top of it. A couple of times I have had to remove Norton fully then re-install it. The side effect is your subscription resets to 1 full year again. I figure that's fair trade for the aggro!

Thanks for the input guys. On a further note, does anyone use either Macafee or AVG (free edition) and if so what are your thoughts please, are they compatible with WOW for instance, and which one is likely to be the more effective?

I am using the AVG (free edition), and it works just fine for me. Never had any problem with WoW, DAoC or AoE online(zone.msn)

Blizzard recently started scanning peoples computers for cheats and hacks while you play, so maybe that is whats causing your firewall to dislike WoW.
