Secret of shields?

Been hearing alot of stuff about this topic so thought i'd post it here. Does anyone know the difference about the shields in DAoC. We have Small, Medium and Large... but i can't seem to find any figures about how they work. I got a nice theory from a friend saying:

Small = 1 target, fast movement, small end usage

medium = 2 targets, slightly slower movement, medium end usage

large = 3 targets, slow speed, high end usage

But is it really true that if you are soloing a mob with a small shield, then you have the same chance to block as if you were using a large one. It's doesn't quite add up if you start thinking logically. Any people out there who can give me some answers?

Yes, the size of the shield effects the chances to block vs. multiple opponents:

End usage when styling is based on the weight of the weapon/shield. Large shields are heavier.

Yes, if you are soloing a mob, you may aswell use a small shield for the purposes of blocking. Shield styles will hit for lower damage with a small shield though.

Small shield = 1 attacker per round.
Medium shield = 2
Heavy shield = 3

all have the same chance to block.

Depending on the type of shield (Round, Kite, Heater, Tower) there's a speed for attacks (which also affects damage with styles) - they'll all have the same DPS at the same material level.

Personally I keep a large and a small shield.

Large shield: for when Im trying to get all the agro or when theres loads of mobs about (not terribly often it has to be said). Only ever use it in places like Dartmoor or DF (where the mobs are pretty numerous and sudden)

Small shield: For slamming in RvR and PvE. Does less damage but recovery time is MASSIVELY reduced. In defensive tank mode I find this much more useful. i.e. Slam, taunt, taunt, taunt, mob recovers and I got the agro. In a normal group setup or soloing you'll probably find this considerably more useful.

when two guys are hitting hero instead of druid, things go worse for those two guys, not for hero

No if the hero is the last enemy standing after the battle, n it happens quite often

shields suck, and thats not a secret ;P use small one not to waste all ur end in slam and pull ur 2handed toy.





ps: They rock in pve of c, chance to block against 1 opponent is exactly the same with every shield, size only affects chance to block against multiopponents (as sum1 alrdy pointed above tho)

I use a med shield, being able to block more than one opponent is nice and the delay with it isn't actually that bad, after a slam I can get 3-4 moves off with a spd 3 weapon (obviously haste buffs affect how many times I hit).

Endwise I didn't think there was much difference, think I can get 3 slams off with a med shield, I must check on that

Shields are pretty well balanced, something for most situations and moods

If the hero is last man standing he prob want to die to get reunited with his group.
