more ddosing of DNS servers, says la reg. shows some planning tbh so odds are no kiddies were involved, though why the bad men want to hit heavily entrenched domain servers when there are perfectly acceptable targets like bt.co.uk I don't know ;)

I get the feeling someone is playing about to see what is and isn't possible. Its like a giant experiment. The attacks seem almost calculated not to cause disruption, they are just short of maxing the pipes each time.

I wonder what is going on...

I reckon someone is going to try and take down as much of the net as possible they are just testing which bits are weaker than others...

Sounds like they are testing the limits and then going to try and hit everything at once to bring it all down in one mighty blow..

Surely there must be a way of preventing these types of attacks

You seem to not realise, these people don't use their own computers but secretly use other peoples machines to perform the actual DOS attack.

There are a number of cases where military computers have been hacked or stand the possibility of being hacked.

For some reason the US Armed Forces in particular seem to think that they are inpenetrable. Remember the British guy (Gary McKinnon iirc) that was accused of hacking nearly 100 US military sites.

The US D.O.J. wanted (and maybe still want) to deport him so he can get crucified over there.

Err, lets see...

I don't know what I'm talking about, and just posted a nonsense statement about military networks being secure, despite the US currently trying to deport a British man for hacking into over 100 US military networks.

...Hows that?

but my post eas not refering to there sites more along the lines of there missile launching-ness.

they probabally wouldn't mind there sites being taken down by mr. bin-lardin... (reitivly speaking)

and they still need a computer to start the attacks unless they have created a revolutionalery system of getting onto the internet with out the use of a computer...

security is very tight on there missile systems network, its what LAN and the internet were developed for...
