My cats bring in a plethora of living things, play with them (in a torturous death kind of way), before eating them alive.

Today one of them got a mouse, which escaped under the back room sofa. 3 hours later, the mouse is still under the sofa, the cat is still waiting for it to come out. So I lift the sofa up, the cat darts in and grabs the little beastie, and sits there looking proud of itself. Until I lift the cat into the air, and carry it to the catflap.

At which point the cat drops the mouse. Which promptly disappears at a high rate of knots under the fridge. Which the cat doesn't see.

So several hours later, I pull the fridge out to find the mouse cowering behind some pipework, safely out of reach of feline activity. So I reintroduce the cat, which then frightens the mouse so much that it disappears into a hole that goes god knows where. But wherever that hole goes, it goes inside the depths of my house.

So now the little bastard is probably eating my gas pipe or something :(

Tbh if its a mouse i feel bad for it, as there harmless things and watching one cower i dont think id have the heart to sick a cat on it again ( and im generally a violance loving bastard ) if its a rat -I hate the things with a passion!

Either way only way I can see to fix it now is mouse + mousetrap = win.

One has got into my grandmothers by eating through the spray foam to block wholes in external walls. It now has access to 2 drawers one of which held her ginger snaps which the mouse ate :p

my cat used to bring back all sorts of stuff, nothing like waking up after a night out to find a half eaten rabbit as a "gift"

Rofl. :p He'll be at the Werthers next

Mice are cute. I'm not sure I could let my cat attack it more than once, that's sadistic! They had their chance and the mouse got away. He probably earned the right to gnaw through your scalectrix, but now he's gone to mouse heaven. :(

My old cat used to catch frogs and leave them on the kitchen floor. Frogs squeal as they die, cos they dry out.....its not a pleasant noise....nor is it nice to have to peel them off the lino in the morning.
I was incredibly impressed when then 2 cats started working as a team though.....caught them one day, trying to bring somethingin through the cat flap. One pushing from one side and the other pulling from inside. They'd managed, somehow, to catch a woodpecker. They got in it, then it struggled so much they let go of it. It went a bit bananas, understandably, and started lashing out with its (very large and sharp) beak. The cats decided enough was enough and flattened themselves against the wall whilst the bird flew round the room and into the windows. It wasvery funny, they were looking at me as if to say,' here, look what we brought you....now can you make it go away please?!?'

Heh, youtube didn't exist when this happened, it was about 16 years ago. I shooed the cats out of the room, so as not to scare it any further than necessary, then left it alone for half an hour to calm down. Then went back in, very quietly, with an old bed sheet, threw it in its general direction and then pinned the sheet to the floor with bird underneath it. Picked up package, carefully, moved to open window and shook sheet out of it...bird flew off.....and then saw both cats sitting on the windowsill of the next room looking somewhat relieved!
They also caught a jack rabbit once. I saw the both of them stalking it in the garden, and then watched the whole sequence of the pounce and the fight (it was a bloody big rabbit). They managed to get it to the cat flap, which at the time was a hole in the wall with about 20cm worth of tunnel and the flap at the end. One cat went in backwards, pulling the rabbits leg (it was dead or as near to as could be by this time) and the other headbutted it repeatedly, trying to get it through the tunnel. Needless to say, it was too big, and got stuck. The cats looked very confused at this, one on either side of the wall, and just sat there and stared at it, as though trying to figure a way around the problem. I had to remove it in the end, becuase they gave up and got annoying by miaowing at the door to come in!

Indeed, although it's nice to see em get rid of pests, the smell when you come downstairs to the kitchen and you see a beheaded bird isn't nice, also the dry blood on the worktop sucked a bit. :p

But nonetheless I love watching when my cat does it, even though she has a bell on shes still successful. :D

What I find fascinating is the majority of Tom’s thread end up as ‘cat’ discussion – I’m not complaining – I miss you guys and IRC kitty spam - :)

Back to the thread – I miss receiving 'gifts of love' from my cat – leaving half-dead fluffy mammals at the door – and they expect to be rewarded, what a cheek!
