Scout Question

I recently started a new scout, and am now lvl 19 and having fun in BG0, but I am a bit puzzled by a scout's stealth. I am normally stealthed, and when I see an enemy running nearby, I hit the critical shot button and draw up ready to fire. Half the time, drawing up unstealths me, giving the enemy warning and 7 seconds to get away or to close on me for melee (which I suck at). An equal number of times, I remain stealthed for the whole of the draw time, only unstealthing as the shot is released.
In a word, WHY?
I cannot seem to make sense of this, why sometimes I unstealth and other times I remain stealthed when drawing up for the first time. Any ideas?

16+4 stealth at lvl 19.

"Whyte was just unstealthed by her own longbow"?

Basically, it depends on your stealth skill.

Taken from Oakleif's Stealth Guide....

The chance for an archer to remain stealthed when drawing a bow is:

Normal Shot - 100% x Stealth Spec / Character Level

Critical Shot - (100% x Stealth Spec / Character Level) - 20%

So taking that into account, you'd need 19+4 stealth at L19 to have a 100% chance to remain hidden when drawing a crit shot.

Cheers, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for clearing it up.

Speak with the minstrel NPC in Cotswold.
You'll get a +2 Stealth cloak off it (lots of running, though).

I have 15+3 Stealth, and I uncover about 10-20% of the time or so.

1) The more stealth you have, the better chance you have to remain stealthed when drawing.. my scout has 33+13 stealth and unstealths loads.. (it sucks dogs bollocks tbh).

2) Don't use critshot on someone who's moving, it will count as single shot.

Really? I never knew that.
I'm sure I've hit someone for double damage using critical shot as they swam across a river, then doing half of the critical shot when using normal attack.

... wrong.

Test, evaluated and concluded that It's still a crit shot.

I tried it with duel friend...

... hitting for 70-90 then I used normal shot BOTH moving and still target

... hitting for 130-150 when I used crit shot, both moving and still target... :)

Crit shot is for targets that isn't in combat....¨'
It works on moving targets too, but they can't be in combat.

Now that I think about it, I didn't take foes down ti 1/3 until they decided to sit/stand, But I swear I did more damage than with ordinary attack.

I can of course be wrong.

Stuff regarding crit shots, taken from Oakleif's Archery Guide

Please note that critical shot will work against targets that are: sitting, standing still (which includes standing in combat mode but not actively swinging at something), walking, moving backwards, strafing, or casting a spell. Critical shot will not work against targets that are: running, in active combat (swinging at something), or mezzed. Stunned targets may be critical shot once any timers from active combat have expired if they are not yet free to act; i.e.: they may not be critical shot until their weapon delay timer has run out after their last attack, they may be critical shot during the period between the weapon delay running out and the stun wearing off, and they may not be critical shot once they have begun swinging again. If the target was in melee with an archer, the critical shot may not be drawn against them until after their weapon delay has run out or it will be interrupted. This means that the scout's shield stun is much less effective against large weapon wielders (who have longer weapon delays) than against fast piercing/thrusting weapon wielders. Also note that if the target has a shield or are being guarded by someone with a shield, and the one holding the shield is facing the archer and is in combat mode (actively swinging or not), their block rate against arrows is DOUBLED. If they are using engage against you, you’ll only get past their defenses about 5% of the time.

U unstealth depending on ur stealth lvl compared to the level of ur target. Ie if u have the same lvl of stealth or better than the level of your target then u havea greater chance to remain stealthed.

Er, nope. Chance to remain stealthed when drawing has nothing to do with the level of the target (supposedly).

(100 * stealth/your level ) is your chance (in %) to remain stealthed after a normal shot. If you are shooting a critshot, subtract 20.

For me this is (100 * (33+13) / 50) = 92% for normal shot, and 72% for a critshot.

All this according to Oakleif (scout TL).

Cybwyn's post seems coorect but the bit about critting on mezzed targets is'nt true imo. I regualy duo with a minstrel and we can take down 4-5 using mez + crit + stun ect and it always works fine.

Iirc it depends on wether the targets were in combatmode before they got mezzed. I cannot confirm it though, needs testing.
