I've just recently found out that the secondary school I attended has been through a total change of name. Not only that, but in a few years time it will be demolished, along with a neighbouring enemy school (where people are evil), and combined to form a 'super school' on a nearby derelict industrial site.

Now I haven't been to school for 16 years give or take a few months, but I find myself strangely annoyed that this is happening. Its like the government are trampling over my memories, and wiping out all physical trace of the good times I had at that school. Never mind that it was built on the cheap, from breezeblock in the late seventies; its my school godammit!

Not only that, but I drove past it the other day to see, and its now surrounded by what looks like a 20 foot high mesh security fence! Nobody has been murdered, or kidnapped, or disappeared from this school ever, but some twunt feels the need to make it look like a prison camp just in case.

So, in a few years, any trace of the school I went to will be gone forever.

Also, I found out that the shop that me and my mates went to each lunchtime to buy 12p chip muffins (2 or 3 of them, or 4 if you were greedy), is now somebody's house! Is nothing sacred?

I'm gutted. Just wanted to get that off my chest.

Don't want to sound paranoid Tom, but it looks like the government is wiping all your history out as if u never existed.

BTW they did the same thing with my Jnr school, they changed the name and merged it with another school and turned it into a prison camp, even though it is a very quiet area where nothing ever happens.

maybe, jusy maybe the new uber school will be better equipped, better staffed(hah), better built in a better location and with better access - maybe its not just a plot to piss you off Tom. I feel your pain somewhat, my old school has changed lots since I left (im only 20 so only 2 years ago) and it pisses me off the noobs get all the toys I never did, but then we neer had security cameras to spot us spraypainting "PECY IS A ****" on the side of the main building ;)

I went on a trip down memory lane a few years ago. I was close to my Primary School so drove past, it wasn't there. It is now a housing estate :/

Am I the only one who couldn't give two shits what happens to any of the schools I went to?

(Well, obviously most of you don't give a shit about *my* schools, but you know what I mean)

I'd be other one who couldn't give two shits. ;)

I fail to see why having to know that your secondary school is still standing is so important. And that's just imo, Tom. So don't get all pumped up.

It doesn't matter, Townhill Middle (Now Junior) School is the best school on the face of the planet.

My primary school was closed down and left to rot for a while. It was a catholic school, and the church nearby was shutting down also. It was rumoured that the residents moved into the school buildings for a while afterwards. Anyway, since then the junior half has been erased completely and had some lego-like houses placed on top, but the foundations of the junior half still stood as of 4 or 5 years ago. It was quite horrific to see buildings reduced to little more than irregular-shaped concrete playgrounds, where reside(d) so many memories of mine.
The school had quite a low population and was not only competing with a protestant school not 10 metres away across the road (and a bit to the left) but with another catholic primary school about a mile away.

Well, you would think that even if they HAD erased your memories, wouldn't you :D ?

It's been far too long since I've been anyplace near my old schools for me to know what state they're in. I'm pretty much in the "don't give a toss" camp though.

well Blaxland High in the Blue Mountains is still standing. I did have a look at it last year and saw that they now have a big fuck off basketball centre built on what was the hockey field. Apparently they turned the old school hall/basketball hall into a drama hall to host terrible performances of "Grease" instead of terrible performances of "basketball"

My first school, when I last checked, is still there. And identical to how I remember it - apart from the kidz now have brand new shiny swings and strange looking contraptions made of tires and planks and chains to hang off like monkeys. Damn them all to hell, all we had were rotting benches in memorium to dead teachers and some faded designs on the ground to play hopscotch on. The highlight of our breaktimes was beating each other up or picking stones off the tarmac to trade. /endrant.

Luxury!
When I were a lad, teachers used to line us up outside and beat us for 5 minutes then send us back to class, where we'd usually get beaten up for wearing out the chairs.

Just realised my schools older than your country...

They really should think about closing down or something because that's just fucking wierd.
