With the coming of ToA we've seen 99% peices droped faster than the Mullet in the 90's. Now ive just been SCing myself some items and was wondering...
As MP items ie armour/weapons (mainly armour) are now needed to fulfil ToA requirements and caps, what about SC.. Gems.

Not entirely sure, but i know that if you use MP gems x4 you can get a higher imbue than the standard 37.5 cap on MP O/C.
Was was wondering what ppls thoughts/ideas etc on this are, and also what would be a safe O/C Imbue past 37.5 with MP gems.

Yes i know it would be very costly and risky on all parts - item/gems/con lose from death ><. But if there is a reasonably safe level i think the gain would out weigh the loss.

Discuss!

Well, you're saying that it should be possible to go past the 5.5 pt OC using only MP gems....

As you can OC 5.5 points on any MP item, try your theory on for instance lvl 25 MP gloves.. (just an example since you may actually find some MP in that lvl range on CM for BG use)

Try that for a few weeks, then please come back and tell me how you got past the 5.5 point limit...

Aye will have a few tries on some Thid stuff when im bored, if it is at all viable or even possible the thought of having to do xx(x) amounts of retries per Gem then x4 Gems, then multiply that by say 4 - 5 items depending on ToA items. Damned heck of a lot of tries :(

maximum overcharge is 5 points. you can put in +5.5, cause an extra 0.5 wont change the chance on any level.

chance of success is basechance+sum of gemchances+itemqualichance+scskillchance which can be determined as follows

1. basechance: depends on points you wish to overcharge with
1 = -10
2 = -20
3 = -30
4 = -50
5 = -70

2. gemchance: each gem counts in
96% = +1
97% = +3
98% = +5
99% = +8
100% = +11

3. itemqualichance: higher quality item means better chance to be successful
96% = +6
97% = +8
98% = +10
99% = +18
100% = +26

4. scskillchance: the more skilled you are, the more successful
1 - 50 = -50
51 - 100 = -45
...
501 - 550 = 0
551 - 600 = +5
...
1001 - = +50

for example to put 5.5 points overcharge on a mp item as a lgm with 4 mp gems: -70+4x11+26+50=50% which means theres almost no risk. with 6 points oc on the other hand, you would die and destroy the item, not because there is less chance than 50%, but because mythic capped oc at 5 (i.e. 5.5) points.

You cant sc passed 5.5 (or 5 as the games rounds down). It just will not let u. Try it on a lowbie item if ur worried it will go boom.

Nice calculation for chance to make but totally and utterly wrong! On a 99% quality item u can do 5 oc using 4 x 99% gems (some say u can do it with 2 x 98% + 2 x 99% but i cant say ive tried it). For mp its the same.

I'm using 2*98% +2*99% on 99% items
For MP I use 3*98% and 1 99% gem
Never failed so far

Ill try anything once if it means making less gems :clap:

There has to be a calculation (like above) that will tell u if u can make with 100% (or 99.9999% knowing game) chance. Can anyone adjust above figures of give correct method? I would have thought gem level (eg. raw or precious etc) would effect calc too! :wub:

I once blew up a 99% item with 5.5pt OC using 1x 100%, 2x 99% and 1x 98% gems... there are NO guarantees as soon as OC is involved :m00:

No hard feelings, but checking duskwave Zonija got 1003 points in SC now... You sure you did the OC after you got past the 1000 skill limit ?

From official site:
"Factors that control the chance of overcharge success: item quality, quality of gems used for imbue, amount overcharged, and the skill of the crafter."

So gem level should have nothing to do with it ;)

Let me add that I do 1x98%, 3x99% (and often enough 2x98%, 2x99%) on 99%/MP gear, with my spellcrafting being a whole 870, and never failed anything either ...

did 1000s 5.5 o/c items from level 20 to 51

i always use 98.5% gems n average and blew up up 1 piece in my entire career

so

100, 98, 98, 98
99, 99, 98, 98
99,99, 99, 97
100, 99, 98, 97
etc.

as a minimum

altough i did 98.3 average imbues a lot and only blew up only once too

Does this mean you can get as much SC on a 99% armor as a 100% armor??

Would really rock :p

calc is official one from camelotherald, why should it be wrong?

Hard to answer, really. Perhaps it was the plan, and that was changed, or there was a mistake, or something.

It's easy to prove, though, as there is a pretty good chance of failing with 4 x 99% gems and a 99% item on a 5 point overcharge with that calculation. However, it's a very small chance in the game, as in practice few spellcrafters see any failures with this.

Yes you can.

Um, no, you can't.

You can overcharge 99% armour and 100% armour by 5 points.

However, that takes it to 33 imbue points for 99%, and 37 for 100% (plus half a point as it rounds down).

When you do a overcharge there is 3 things that can happen.

You make it.
You fail.
You go boom.

My guess is that the formulas on http://www.camelotherald.com/documentation/spellcraft/formula.html are to determine chanse of case one, actualy making the OC, only.

So if it gives you a 50% chanse you will have a 50% chanse of making the OC, and a 50% chanse of either simply failing or exploding.

So the "go boom" percentage would be a part of the failing percentage.

I havent seen anything official about how high the chanse of exploding is, I am interested tho, so if you got some info please share :)

I must have done some 100+ full oc5 suits, and never once have i blown up using the 3x99%+1x98% combo (and it doesnt matter if its 99% or MP item!)

due to my lazyness i now on 99% suits uses the 2x98%+2x99%. Only once have I blown up on that

on MPs, however, i use the 3x99%+1x98% cuz i dont rly feel like paying for a new MP plate chest piece ;)

Although the formula's say a lot has any lgm SC'er ever tried 4 MP gems for a 6 point OC? I am debating maybe doing 5 low level items with some low level MP gems just to see the chances, if nothing else the SCer is a friend so will be funny to wach him explode :touch:
