i've got a sblive full and the difference is mine has an extra plate in the back with a ribbon to the sblive which houses 2mini din (midi in + out) and 2spdif ports and maybe some more.
cant be bothered to pull m.c out of hole right now
as far as i know all of the connections are on the value you just dont get the ribbon, and board with sockets
i think this is what they mean.
if you want to know more reply, and i will dig the book out

Main SB Live board has :

Joy port
Front spkr out
Rear spkr out
Line in
Mic In

If you add the d/b you then also get:

SPDIF in
SPDIF out
MIDI in
MIDI out

Plus, a digital coax connection for digital output.

Just by some good speakers that support Dolby Digital AC3, that way your soundcard doesnt have to be able to output AC3/SPDIF, just digital (i have a simple PCI64 and a GOOD speaker system and i get Dolby Digital 5.1 from my DVD's)

Huh? U what? I take it you are referring to me, billy m8. I did indeed tell this billy character to fuck off
Reason:
1. I was pissed.
2. I have a credit card fraud problem and I have been billed 500 us dollars for some shit i never bought from USA.
3. I had another 3 figure phone bill the same day
4. Girlfriend dumped me

SO, as you can see i was a leeetle peeved
I do apologize Billy, it was not intentional, besidea i cant remember what i asked you to fuck off for. I am really sorry - didnt mean it mate, hope ya accept my apologies.
email me or icq me 25795645 if ya wanna here it from me live.

*sigh*

There is no such thing as a pair of speakers which you just plug in to a digital coax for AC3. You *need* an digital signal decoder, these can cost upwards of £500 for a base model one thats any cop.

Rather than confusing me, can anyone tell me a decent sound setup. Im helping my mate (a musician) build a puter and want some decent speakers and Scard. Cheap. So whats best (price/performance balanced).

Ive seen some Sub+Sat speakers for £32. And a SB64AWE a bit cheap too, but are they any good ?

Ta for replies.

Get a Sound Blaster Live Value @£57.58 and a
set of PC Works FPS1000 speakers @ £49.35
from www.insight.com they kick ass

I would suggest :

SBLive (FULL) -for around £130.00
Cambridge SoundWorks 4 Point Surround - $60.00

You simply won't get better sound reproduction than that for the money.

Cant say i have heard much better than the 4 point speakers, of which i bought to compliment my sb live value - saying that, otherwise you are looking at stuff like VideoLogic Scirocco - they are 100watt RMS, thats over 1000watt PMPO max power rating. But im sure you dont need that power, or for that matter the near 200 pound bill for them
For 50 quid the 4 point surround are a good bet

Speakers are good, (especially the 4 point speakers) but a decent set of Headphone kick ass.
