The British Armed Forces has officially recognised a naval technician as a satanist, meaning that he can conduct satanic rituals on board the HMS Cumberland.

Daily Telegraph said:
I didn’t want to feel I couldn’t get out my Satanic Bible and relax in bed. I didn’t want to bite my tongue any more when dealing with idiots

Interesting to say the least.

I have no problems with other religions. Satanism does seem abit "dodgey" to say the least. Maybe that's just all the Christian propaganda (even though they were the ones to come up with the satan and hell stuff).

Even though, it's still interesting to see that the navy has an open mind about these things now.

hmm, not too sure how I like that. technically I am agnostic (teh safe way out I suppose) so there shouldn't really be anything for me to worry about. however, I prefer a bloke carrying a cross all over the world to a bloke praying to "the prince of lies" to come have his merry way with us sheep. :/

You could say satanism is as bad as not believing in buddha.

Atleast in the buddhists eyes?

It's just the opposite side of the coin, not saying it's ok or it is ok but...if helikes to do it, go for it.

Yeah providing it doesn't harm anyone then fair do's.

What I don't get is why would you so strongly beleive in, and worship something that you know will cause you an eternity of pain in his 'realm' when you die? He must be a glutton for punishment or something.

I don't actually know what happens to his "followers". Might be that, if you're a good person but worship satan, you go to hell and live a blissful life and if you're a bad person and worship satan, you go to heaven and be punished.

Who knows really. It's said that if you don't follow god, jesus, holy spirit, whatnot that you are bound to eternity of pain, but isn't it one side of the coin?

Just giving a perspetive, even if contraversial.

technically the religion of satanism has been around far longer than other newer religions like sikhism so i guess its ok

tbh as long as no ones harming anyone/thing else then its fine

if this 1 rule was followed then everythign in the world would be gr8

You do realize Satanism doesnt need to involve satanic rituals etc? Read some books by Anton LaVey. :)

It's more a philosophy of life really, as I see it. Altho, sometimes it goes to messed up extremes, but hey, look at the christians.

The guy in the news story follows some american church of satanism founded by some bloke in the sixties so I have no idea what that's about. However classical satanism is all about rebellion v god - its best explained as if you look at all thats wrong in the world and decide that if theres is an omnipotent being responsible for all of it then he must by definition be evil - thus anyone who opposes this god must be good. Thus Satan who rebelled against god according to the bible must be a force for good and is thus worshipped - all the stuff about sacrifices is propaganda and if you read the old testament early christianity was not above sacrificing animals etc.

Classical Satanists describe god as either some uncaring monster toying with helpless mortals or as some insane senile old man.

christianity doesnt use the morals that are shown in the old testament, it is used to teach the history and as explanation of how the world came to be.

That would be Judaism, to get forgiveness they needed the high priests to sacrifice a lamb, whereas Christians can be forgiven by praying straight to God, kind of like skipping the middle man.

Hmm - bit of a simplification that and I'm pretty sure jewish people dont sacrifice animals...

The old testament is as much a part of christianity as the new testament although its a bit unfortunate for christians that the two dont really agree on much... Eye for an eye v turning the other cheek to use an overused example...

Political Correctness gone mad (and it started pretty mad anyway!).

As for some of the other posts above - the Old Testament (or Hebrew Scriptures) and New Testament (Christian Scriptures) are in tune with each other -- you just have to appreciate the difference of the two people's that each set of books was aimed at and what they were intended to accomplish.

The idea that they are somehow contradictory and give a different view of God is not a new one but has, I assure you, been done to death and quite discredited.

From the RE we were forced to do in school, I think I can remember something about this:

Jebus gave an 'eleventh' commandment, the "love each other, foo" one, but he also said to follow the old ones, because they were clever.

Please remember, it was ten years ago this was drilled into us :D

Oh. Err, I've always felt pretty much that way. If God exists that is. Does that make me a Satanist? Shit. :eek6:

Ah I saw this. It was explained the day after in the Telegraph as a typo. The navy dude in question was actually a Santaist. They thought it would be easier to let him carry on than break the news to him Father Xmas doesn't exist.

Which was nice.

So maybe god was having a bad day when he gave out the eye for an eye stuff and then he was on some really good weed when he said about the turn the other cheek stuff - I see can see how thats easily reconciled by christians ;)

P.S. With your title of geriatric your not god are you? if so I'll get toadying.. I mean 'worshipping' you...

so what's the point of being a satanist if you don't molest goats, eat virgins and stuff.

Satanism might be an organised religion which isn't involved in the dark arts, but until they become more public about their beliefs the majority of people will see them as depraved perverts who spend the weekend inserting pythons into each other oO

Like the Freemasons who went public a few years ago... but that's probably because they wanted attention

I've just been practising my deep-throat skillz on Brockwursts so whichever God actually exists I can do a death-bed fellatio and end up in heaven. Praying is for losers !

I'd piss my sides if these devil worshippers ended up roasting in hell with the skin flayed from their rotting bodies, while I was in heaven having a great time.

Anyway, as all the armed services serve their Queen and country, and the Queen is the head of the Church of England, it does seem a bit paradoxical.

I think the Army has been secular since the English Civil war...

The Queen as Head of the Armed forces is a different entity from the Queen as head of the Anglican church anyway and for cost effectiveness all comes in the form of 1 person ;P

Well my dad did national service, and he swore an oath to serve his Queen and his country. The names of many regiments are also linked with the monarchy, so I just presumed that they still serve the Monarch?

The Old Testament law (eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth etc - Exodus 21:24; Leviticus 24:20; Deuteronomy 19:21) did not command revenge but moderation - i.e. the penalty should not be greater than the damage done. Where the Old Testament laws were written to command a nation and provide their statute book when Jesus said to 'turn the other cheek' (Matthew 5:38-42) he was addressing individuals, saying that they should not seek justice (or revenge) for themselves.

Somebody slapping you on the cheek is not life threatening, but it is embarrasing - more of an assault on one's pride. A follower of Christ would not be expected to stand around whilst having the stuffing kicked out of him, but neither should he go on the offensive to tear somebody down if he felt his pride had been wounded.

There is no doubt that Christianity is different to Judaism and that contributed heavily to the persecutions that the early Christians suffered. But it sprang from that form of worship and so Old and New Testament have more in common than one may think on a surface read.
