what the diff between a say £20 one by tom tom and a £100 one by tom tom /anywhere in middle? surely they all do the same job and use the same technology?
Most likely in UI, ease to use, quality(lon lastivity and update features).
The basic rule in any product really is that money buys you less trouble and long lasting product, while cheap ones are for burst-use and cause you a few more gray hairs.
Oh and in some cases, like i-anything, it's the product name that adds to the price alone.
Mid range products, i've found, are usually the best as there's no extra cost for "bullcrap" variable and they are made with some quality in mind.
They use different sat nav networks. Garmin and TomTom are the best in my experience. The quality of maps, the UI, the accuracy and speed at which they find and change routes. How good their ability to find the satellites is.
We've had cheap sat navs in my family, and mid range ones. Never again. They do not work properly, take ages to find a sat, don't always find you the best route, and a clumsy to use.
Stick with Garmin or Tomtom and you will get a decent sat nav that lasts you for a long time.
With TomTom its features. The real expensive ones come with traffic and IQ routes so if it gets told about a jam in your path it will route you round it. They also have Speed Camera databases and integrate with your mobile ect so you can do more with them. If all you want is door to door navigation with out all the bells the TomTom One should be perfect.
do you use it so it streams the maps off the web? in that case it costs quite a bit!
been looking for a gps program for my g1 that allows pre-loading maps (off wifi for example) so that i dont have to pay those huge prices for data rates while using my phone for gps
