After someone mentioned this in a thread the other day I decided to buy the DVD to see if it was as weird as I remember.

Will report back my findings if you're interested :)

Watched the first assignment (first 6 episodes) now. Quite spooky. Made me jump when our lass opened the door during a creepy bit to ask me what I was doing.

It's very weird. I like the idea that time is a malevolent force constantly trying to break the order in the universe.

The titles are really shit :)

Worth a watch so far. The next assignment is supposed to be the best though. Will let you know...

(Random S&S factoid: The first 3 episodes of Assignment 2 were the only ones ever to get a repeat because ITV ppl went on strike after they first aired so when they eventually got round to showing it again they started from the beginning of the assignment. This probably explains why it is the one most ppl remember.)

It *is* worth a rewatching, but creaks along to the average viewer. I loved it (I bought the VHS's when they came out a while ago) though - 'pack up your troubles in your own kit bag' etc. It doesn't really pass the non-genre-fan / girfriend test though, with it's extremely long run time and limited sets. It's something that would make a great theatre play, I always thought...

I'm really interested in this now Wij, thanks :)

It did scare me when i was a kid like nothing else. I quite like the beginning I saw it recently on UK Gold or something. Cheesy but kind of fun.

I vaguely remember other "materials/agents" coming in - Jet was a huge black guy that I remember smashed a door in, there were a few others that I can't remember.

Most ppl remember the train station one (with the pack up your troubles bit) but the one that I remember shitting me up was the one where a tower block has an invisible top floor or something. Is that on the set you've got? Freaky shit that was

Possibly worth a thread of its own, but I throughly recommend the Quatermass DVD just released, starring John Mills. Creepy 70s post-apocalyptic adventures which sees a classic character from BBC's infancy pitched into a violent world; it couldn't be more different than the originals.

Rather like Harry Potter coming back in 20 years and getting involved in a gang fight (actually, not at all like that - but you get the idea),

Or does Quatermass mean jack to everyone?;)
