Anway Ferercvaros were shite, Rooney gets a nice hat trick and the english press have a field day, will it be similar tommorow? I doubt it

Anyway Well played Shearer and Mr Rooney

Millwall played Ferencvaros, not Man Utd. Ferencvaros are Hungary's most succesful club whereas the team Man Utd played - Fenerbache - are the Turkish equivalent of Chelsea for example. Therefore, Rooney's hat trick against the Turks was more impressive - not taking into account his age - than Shearer's hat trick against the only Arab-Israeli club in existence and also a club that's only been around for about fifteen years.

That's why there won't be the same hype.

You misunderstand, they're not on a par with Chelsea but in the Turkish league they are the 2nd/3rd biggest club just as Chelsea are in the Premiership. Chelsea would piss all over them, just as Man Utd did.

No Hat-trick was either more impressive than the other. None out of all the goals were particularly spectacular (though this is often the case when a hat-trick is acheived) though both are worthy of merit.

Rooneys was against a team who's defense was woeful at best, Shearers similar. Rooney had the advantage of scoring a set piece who's wall seperated to let his rather tame free kick go straight through it and score, Shearer got to score against an outfield player after their keeper had been sent off. Rooney got to play alongside one of the best forwards in the world and several internationals, Shearer doesn't have that advantage.

All in all fairly even, but then we're used to seeing Shearer achieve these feats and now pass them on as just another notch for him. For Rooney he's just starting out, and whether or not he can do what Shearer has and as consistently as he has is just another matter that we'll not know until we compare the two records after they have both retired.

Shearer has been the Premiership's number one striker since it started back in 92/93 (if I remember correctly, my memory's not what it was!). He doesn't get the headlines that Rooney does, though, because he plays for a less fashionable club and - more importantly - because he is old news. The media always wants new heroes, so they can make new villains out of them.

Have always had a lot of time for him. When he came onto the scene he had blistering pace, amazing control, heading skill and could score from 20-30 yards out with, it would seem, the same ease that he would score from 6 yards.

Some pretty nasty injuries nearly curtailed his career, and certainly took away his pace, but he matured into an out and out centre forward. It's not right to compare him to Rooney because they are different types of strikers and because Shearer has done it all and showed what a good Pro he is. As much as I like Rooney's abilities I don't think he's got the same mental strength that Shearer has.

Something tells me that Rooney will be another Gazza, a skilled player who throws it away ... but I really hope I'm wrong.

Shearer plays alongside Kluivert and Bellamy, they are not exactly unheard of.
