Salvaging a waste of time?

Is salvaging a waste of time? I spent several hours gaming yesterday. Of all the drops of mobs I killed the ratio of cultivation items compared to salvaging items is really appauling. In a 3 hour slot I got maybe 1 or 2 salvage item drops compared to the hundred of seeds that were of no use to me.
I found I was having to salvage my armour as I was replacing it. Fine if my skill was high enough but nine times out of ten I was either too low in skill or the salvaging failed and all I got was essence and no fragments. Not only this but I couldnt sell the armour to make some needed cash.

I finally started an alt to do cultivating just to see if doing it would reverse the drops for salvaging. No go the drop rate remains the same.

Can we please have the balance readjusted to give us more equal drops plz?

You do know you can re-train your crafting skills any time you like so if you don't like one just pick another.

So you want alot more green drops in the game? or alot less seeds dropped?
I have the same skill and find it fine, tho i do agree the seed drop is alittle high, i get nothing but seeds when i loot corpses

Seeds can be planted - there is too little of the damaged armour type goods to allow one to get skill up in salvaging.

edit: And no its not a case of the green items - just the base items to help get skill training up.

Yep I went salvaging /trinket and regretting it really, you seem to get a seed drop about 1 in 4 mobs and salvage drops about 1 in 500 kills if your lucky.

So far I've managed to make a grand total of 5 trinkets in 14 levels because the salvage drop rate is so low, even salvaging old equipment doesnt really get you too much.

I find i somewhat bizarre that so many denizens of the world carry seeds. Maybe Alan Titschmarsh was a consultant or something.

Buying items from the vendor doesnt help with raising salvation as stated already.

Also, it isnt about increasing the amount of green item drops, more drops of the green trash items that can be salvaged (ie non real items) would be nice in T1.

I've been doing salvaging from level 1 and it isn't all that bad but due to the fact that all items that can be salvaged are green or higher it means when in parties most people roll on it even when it is one of the trashed items that can't really be used for anything, and no, not talking about damaged items here.

The difference is ofcourse that with cultivation you get white seeds to use between skill levels 1-25 then need green seeds for 25-50. With salvaging you need random rare stuff for skill levels 1-50 meaning you need twice the amount of rare drops and roll wins if you are partying than a cultivator.

Anyway, running a few extra PQs where you can pick green items from the bag will help skill up so it can be done. Just wanted to clear a few things up and also agree that it can be a bit hard to skill due to the randomness of rare drops needed.

Edit: Forgot to mention the fact that if you have Talisman Making it may become annoying that after salvaging an item you don't always get a Fragment.

Can you do apothecary with just scavenging? I took scavenging and talisman making but realised I also need magical salvaging..

Agreed, salvaging needs to have a few more basic drops, or maybe some corpse processing option like scavenging and butchery... after all many mobs have/use equipment.

I suppose the thing is that salvaging seems to be very limited in its definition... Butchery and Scavenging both produce stuff for cultivating, apothecary and trinket making... whereas salvaging just produces stuff for making trinkets.

Perhaps the scope of salvaging could be expanded to include taking broken weapons and armour and restoring them, ie ordinary item salvage not just magical item salvage... Or at least maybe making containers for the other tradeskills.

Or maybe we're just missing something, maybe something subtle... has anyone tried to salvage a half eaten mushroom yet? :D

In open beta they had some of the unprocessed magic essence stuff on merchants.
I thought it was a bug it was on all merchants and showing when I didnt even have salvaging, but seems they didnt even want salvagers to have it for basic leveling at launch :(
Seems that salvaging/talisman making will perhaps be the most valuable end game crafts given the difficulty to level them.
