Cod there are plenty of handguns around in the UK, although they are illegal, they arent hard to get hold of.

United States, March 1998: Two boys aged 13 and 11 killed four pupils and a teacher after setting off fire alarms at Westside Middle School in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Thirteen and eleven ffs. :(

Banning handguns won't stop the hardened criminal element, but I reckon it would stop this sort of case from happening coz its pretty easy breaking into your dads gun cabinet as opposed to asking a Yardie if he'll sell you a pistol.

My question is why does the general public need a weapon in the house?

I'd sooner spend money on house security than a gun...

It is definitely harder to get guns now in the UK, and much harder if your a kid who would wanna shoot a school. I think weve curbed out that kinda crime pretty much :)

It's very naive to think that the situation will only get better, when the proliferation and propogation of weaponry is on the increase.

Burying the proverbial head in the sand as MT seems to advocate will only increase the shock, pain, and trauma that will be inflicted when this does actually happen here in the UK.

"Ohhhhh, it could never happen to us! Only to other nations!" Famous last words.

Look at the attitude of the minority of 'scallys' in schools these days. Yes, that attitude has always been there in schools as that minority of 'trouble makers' has always been there.

What you have to realise that as time goes on, the stakes are raised. Look 20 years ago in the states - how many pupil on pupil mass murders were taking place? Next to none. As it has been estimated that the UK is about 10 years behind the US (in terms of social attitudes etc) it won't be long beore disgruntled pupils with a chip on their shoulder will resort to fatal levels of violence to bring retribution against those they percieve to have wronged them.

Mark my words, it's well on its way - it's in the post and there's no way to 'return to sender'.

perhaps but guns dont kill people, mad people with guns kill people.
dont get me wrong though I would like to see all guns banned.
Though guns might be more around, what also is growing is the knowledge about the people that will do these things. At the moment all i hear is that people want to ban the means to kill. What also should be looked at it trying to cure them before the go gaga.

oh please. what was he doing? bunnyhopping? wallhacking? being l33t?

you have to start taking the blame off the games and putting it firmly where it belongs. On the person and/or the person/s that are meant to look after them.

Gives them the feeling of protection?

Trouble is, if someone uses it, in self-defence, they get banged up for murder. (correct me if Im wrong, but is that not what happened to the farmer bloke?)
