Very very creepy game to play it isn't scary but it just sends a chill down your spine when you are walking through a ghost town and seeing the reactor for the first time.

graphics wise its bit meh, but fun game to play. if only they coulda got a co-op mode going woulda been fun to complete it playing with a few mates

the aiming is bit iffy inthis tho, i aim in between someones for head buttlet marks sometimes pop up on the wall behind the blokes ears. iim told they made it like this but its pain the arse when ammo is always so low

for me this is class game all in all. im just loving playing it. its like an fps version of privateer

I would like to see a planetside type of mmo!

Wouldnt it be cool to have 3+ clans all fighting over the scraps of metal elft over from years ago!

Thinking about that, man Gorkamorka would make an ace mmorpg! :p

This game cripples my computer. Even on low settings. It's a real shame since my aging pc's coped admirabley with everything thrown at it in recent years but this game that shows some real promise isn't fast enough on my pc for me to play it properly, due to the affore mentioned squiffy aiming.

Can't you just run in DX8 mode ?

Got this and I've tried to give it a go, but couldn't get into it, which is a bit odd. I may give it another go over the weekend.

I fiddled with the settings and switched dynamic lighting to static lighting as Wij suggest. Can run the game on Medium settings now and it plays quite well. FPS hovers around 40 - 50 most of the time.

There's quite a few bugs in the game tho. Mostly relating to the PDA and the map. I find it a shame you can't make your own waypoints/notes on the map.
Sometimes scrolling in zooms in, sometimes it scrolls out. Sometimes selecting "Move to Character" zooms out the whole map. Sometimes it finds me.
Sometimes when I've retrieved a stash it clears from the map. Sometimes it doesn't.
I've found a couple of bugged quests and the waypoints don't always show them selves.

If I want to patch, save games won't be compatible so I'll lose all my progress so far. On top if that the patch notes don't say for sure if the PDA bug is fixed.

Great game but it should have been released like this.

i agree, there are far to many bugs and a real missed opportunity, when you do get a nice clean head shot you know it isn't down to being a good shot but down to the randomness of the accuracy. Not had a chance to have a good session at it yet though, only played for a few hours but got a decent gun, found a grenade launcher and scope for it. just wish the scope and launcher fitted the m16 clone i just found (and i wish i had ammo for it)

never tried removing the scope, and deleted saves after i finished it to patch, but there is a scoped, silenced, M16 if u know where to look for it.

gets very wibbly towards the end with the blow out stuff, and mad weather. Was a bit rough round the edges, but overall is worth a look

a word of warning for people tho - finish stuff before you go into pripyat - once u go in, you get sucked along, and once you go into the reactor area you CANNOT get back out, so finish everything else first :)

I've just entered the city and..as yet...the only blow out i've experienced was with the Prof in the swamp.

Also at this point if you leave the prof by the bus and run back towards the tunnel..theres a guy in the tunnel whos not there when you clear it through, never got close enough to see his name

I intend to finish the game as is, then install the patch and replay on a harder mode, currently i'm on the 3rd one down, after STALKER, in the list of hardness.

Current favorite part. The Duty assault of the Freedom compound...fkin ace! Found some grenade launcher ammo for the Tag and went to town, sadly left that gun behind and went with the freedom German thing, i forget the name.

I've bitten the bullet and patched and started again. Much more focused on the game this time but the bug with the PDA/Map zoom still exists. Anyone else get this?

I get the option of a Merc suite from the newbie trader now when I hadn't before and my armour seems to take damage. Apart from that it looks like the patch mostly fixed MP issues.

from what i remember, it was originally going to have game-wide "blow out" every 2 hours or something, and u had to keep finding somewhere to hide or get splatted, but it got taken out.

<reactor spoiler!>
once u get to the actual reactor , there is a blow out that requires you to get inside asap, which is easier said than done at that point ;) - u fall into a hole and its no way back from there

oh and that silenced scoped m16 what not is :

you get a quest off the Duty general to recover it, i just kept it - not sure if that spawns it - its in the merc camp top left corner of the military warehouses zone, where the freedom base is

This seems to be one of those peculiar "love it or hate it" type games. I read some forums and people are going nuts about how much they like it and how atmospheric it is and then I read others and people are complaining about what a massive letdown it is. So, the question : Is it worth buying?
