There have been a number of rumours flying about regarding S.T.A.L.K.E.R. GSC Game World have released an official statement to clarify a number of points:

+ To clarify the concerns of some fans regarding S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-related rumours to have appeared recently on the net, GSC Game World believes it necessary to explain the following:
+ The project is on the stage of beta approval and is being actively developed in close cooperation with the publisher.
+ The team has undergone certain reductions, particularly in the art section, due to all the graphics-related works being almost complete (out of 40 people 5 were dismissed). None of the leads, programmers and moreover, testers may not be reduced at any time.
+ Regarding the technology leak, none of the designers gone has the rights to the game's engine (all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. technologies, including the X-Ray engine and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-2 engine belong to the company). Even if the current or next-generation engine would appear on the net, their legal use is impossible. GSC does not intend to sell its technologies in the nearest time, so as does not intend to postpone the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl due to rumours of that kind.

I dont think the game will be very special now, if it had come out before HL2 and Doom 3 like it was planned to then it would have had a very big impact.

Theres still a few unique gameplay features to it (RPG element and full day/night cycle) but a FPS with driving vehicles, real time lighting etc has now all been done and is kind of expected.

Yep, if you spend too long making something, it's impossible to keep up with the pace of new tech.

Its going to be one of those games that "would of been amazing 2 years ago" or "up there with the best" 1 year ago.

i dont see any game thats trying to do what STALKER is doing, only thing that comes close is BOILING POINT and that so buggy you can hardly play it.
Stalker will be (imo) a different type of game where survival itself is a reward... at elast thats what im hoping for...

AI hasn't improved in any FPS since DOOM. It's the same old shit in any FPS I've installed.

F.E.A.R was reported to have clever AI... an NPC threw a grenade at me and I was in awe! and uninstalled the game after another 30mins.

Will STALKER deliver? Maybe not, developers concentrate on level design, graphics, atmospheric sound and cgi. Take that all away and you're faced with the same old AI.

P.S. HL2 wasn't any better, the NPCs just stand there wanting you to hurt them.

I remember wanting this game years ago... It must have been about 2-3 years ago when i first seen the pictures/movies of this game, and at that point it was a "must-have".

I thought it would have been released looong before now, but i wont actually buy the game [You want a game.. but when it takes so long you just lose interest]..
