Having a look on Steam and saw this, looks to be a cross between minecraft and DayZ - anyone playing it? Is it any good?

Have to see when it comes out, currently alpha(if i remember correctly). Let's see when it's finished.

Currently it's kinda like DAyZ, solid idea, with lots to improve/implement.

From what I've played of this, it seems they need to mix Rusts general survival gameplay and DayZ weaponry gameplay, I like the aspect on dayZ that there's the cities to wonder around and such and you can get stuff there, but there's also remote areas, but in this, apart from little fake villages, there's not a great deal, also, the use of weaponry is rubbish - no recoil etc (Which IMO sort of makes it a bit easier?) - Same deal with State of Decay, it seemed very much down to chance, rather than aiming for perfect headshots etc.

Suppose it all depends on what you're looking for in a game.

State of decay isn't really chance at all, with shooting improved(as one would expect instead of everyone being supersniper from day 1 :p) and a rifle you can headshot every single time if you aim correctly.

This from a game that isn't a call of duty simulator :p

To correct that a bit; it's more closecombat shooting(which fits the game) and third person, can't really compare to first person.

But more on topic; i think rust is meant to be barren and let the players build the world, which ofcourse now is limited still.

Yes, you can, but it still could be better, I mean, why can't they introduce the perfect balance between the two?

Probably due to game devs always concentrating on one key idea. Like with dayZ it would be better if it was more zombie oriented(then pvp), state of decay would be better if it had more FPS'ey things/tactics, rust would be better with pre-created content that could be added on. Usually down to time constraints, but also because someone has the idea and they get blind to other options outside that one until it's too late.

Much like with new MMOs where it's "gotta be wow like!" is often the norm.

But why doesn't someone pick up and make a perfect recipe of all 3? - EA could do it for instance, or are they set on broshooters/cashcows only?:(

The latter, whatever the console kids like this month really. Which is terrible shooters and shallow RPGs at the moment.

Bit of Raven, bit of too risky. It's all about money in the end, while a combo of 3 would be great and for example i could design an excellent zombie survival game, it would need money(kickstarter or publisher), be greenlit either way, then go through any company process(from 30 to 3000 people), solve all problems etc and so forth. As an idea it is stupidly simple to make one, but in reality people are too stupid or simple to do so :p

The game dev business is really a mess to be honest, too much red tape and people don't let designers be the boss of projects.

Played this game for a few days. It's total bollocks. Once you've got guns and shit, what is there to do other than grief other people?
