Running A Dedicated Server

Heya all! Does anyone out there know how to run a server as a dedicated server so I can join too? I know hot to run it and the commands and so on but however I run a server from my one machine here as running on windows but I cant even join that server OR any other server for an example INET,Paradise & so on 'cause when I try... it says 'Dedicated Server: Faster but you cannot join from this PC', Please let me know - Thanks

When you start a dedicated server, it should run the hlds executable in its own window. Run the client again and connect as normal.

... which works OK for a LAN server. If you want to run it as an internet server you must use different server port numbers. The default is 27015, so if the server uses this, you must include the port command in the client executable command line to change this e.g.
+port 27016
