RTcW Enemy Territory

Sorry, but this is a thread about a computer game, but hey it may change the subject...
Recently I bought VietCong, it looked like a good idea, I have a good pc so I thought I'd give it a try in my quest to find something better than Counter-Strike. (Groans I hear, but thats my opinion )
It cost £35. The single player is quite poor, and pretty irritating, the multiplayer is better, but not enough maps and some terrible performance problems , even on my pc. No cvars or information to help out whatsoever, in the end it will be a 5 minute wonder
Then last week my search led me to buy Planetside.
Another game that runs terribly on my hi-spec computer, and is quite boring imo to boot . I know a lot of people play this btw, but thats my opinion.
Last night I downloaded Enemy Territory. Its about 275 mb, its completely free, doesn't even need RtCW installed to work. Its not a demo, its a complete game, and it's free.
And quite honestly it knocks spots of both of the other games I just mentioned. It's obviouly rather like RtCW, but with more features, more realism and longer extended games.
Try it if you have broadband or something to download it with, its impressed me no end

Tried it, didn't think much to it



......then again, had tons of clipping which perhaps spoiled it a little.Maybe there's a setting somewhere I can adjust, v-sync of whatever.

I'll give it another go.

Edit: Heard it's completely different to RTCW multiplayer (which I have, but never played multiplayer) Anyone shed some light on this? How does it compare and is RTCW worth re-installing to play multiplayer?

I played the regular multiplayer when it came out for a bit, was quite good at it tbh.
But it suffered from not enough maps, and not enough players with a vague clue of what to do
ET is not completely different, but different enough to make it interesting. The maps for my money, and from what ive seen, look much better, and there looks to be a lot more substance to it .

Im gunna play it tonight for sure mate. Frankly its a more enjoyable, better balanced game than either of them 2 I just payed 80-odd quid for, and its free .
Just need to sort out some binds and I might just have a marathon session toinght. I noticed the more points you got, or something, you got promoted. I'm after a generalship tonight

While i like it the control setup is wrong. It wont let you bind certain keys. And i find it is always a bit crowded, to much on the HUD and not enough left that isn't covered by a HUD menu or something.

Artillery is the best part by a long long way.

The game looks great so far.

The only problem is my mouse doesnt seem to be working very well. Its almost like someone else is controlling it at times.

Its not very smooth at all...any suggestions as to how this can be fixed??

If I know anything about q3 (and I do ) there will be cvars to remove or shrink a lot of that stuff. But I only played it a little bit, so its as new to me as to everyone else. Have a hunt about, im sure the commands will be out there

Smooth mouse in controls ? Off or On , Id try both.
cg_drawcompass 0 gets rid of one of the maps at a guess btw

I'm also experiencing weird Connection problems too...I think that may be the reason for the mouse thing...

More to the point , where are you playing ? Tell you what, heres a connection guide from the gods of q3, upsetchaps. Check rate snaps and maxpackets to begin with.
Tbh, I imagine the problem is more likely you're on a bad server m8.

I'm loving this 10 MBit uni business.. Took 5 minutes to download and the first 30 servers all give me a ping on 1...

Sorry, enough bragging, I go home next week to conventional BB anyway.

I rather like it. It's a shame there's no "practice" mode, but it's a good play. I like the cooperation involved and the communications are pretty good.

The only quibble is having the messages appear in the bottom left and not top left. I don't know enough about Q3 to know if I can move that?

Confusingly for me there was a GAME.net server listed in the server browser... which was unexpected. I managed to get on, but it disconnected me...

Did that to me too! Its labeled as a test server so perhaps its not properly up and running yet.
