Surely there are others here who remember the heyday?

Saturday afternoons were reserved for bwra3l, IRC was buzzing, the matches were great. There are times and names I'll never forget, especially the infamous like [clanwhore]vamp!ro :)

I think the impending q4 and the silly amount of time I've spent playing OSP CA over the last few weeks are making me yearn for more Arena games. Realism can sod off, crazy movement skills and aim are where it's at.

But I digress, any more sad old basts like me who miss it?

I stopped playing once I couldn't keep up with the new batch and their mad sniping/camping/running away skillz. I do so fondly remember bashing Belgians in IRC over their disgusting connectivity and bandwidth, and the faffage that came with being an admin. I've dripped with sweat after a few games I can tell you. Q3 was uninstalled sometime in 2002 for me, and has been re-installed once or twice only to have myself suffer the same kind of defeat again and again. CTF was my thing but I recall a couple of good TDM matches that I was forced into.
RA3/CA seems ... pointless. ;)

Oh, and vampiro :D

Heh, belgians, plasma spam (and lag inducing) kings. :)

The thing I like about all the arena games is that each round starts with everyone in the same boat, with a level playing field.

I disliked RA3 when I came back to it initially, mostly due to the stupid amounts of shaft being employed, but the OSP CA players around at the minute have crazy aim and use a lot of rail and rox which suits me down to the ground :) It's been really hard going getting back to anything approaching a decent level of play and I'm still way off.

I'll admit reinstalling and having a go at CA when there are loads of llamas who will play all day and can just use rail/backstab tactics whilst hiding behind others is a waste of time almost certain to end up in causing misery and anger for myself. Q3 was good fun, and it does have its moments.
The railgun is what messes it all up and those kiddies know it! Run away from my rockets, for your own good!

AND! I enjoyed moving about in CA; the chance encounters with varying hp were what made it. Too often in CTF you could know what was coming and get stuck in routine. Too often in CA though, you could walk around a corner and get railed to buggery.

It was ace.

But then it all got leet and lame and was all about camping rather than fun... as soon as it turned like that most clans I knew and liked stopped playing it, and so did I.

Ahhh the hazey days of ra3. Loverly.

heh yeah I miss the good old days of q3 ra3 and ctf. Nothing has come close to it! :)
Still playin q3ctf now, after a couple years lost in daoc (mmorpg's - never again!!!) and it takes yonks to get ur skillz back ;) We (BoP) played a couple seasons of BWra3, but as wazzak said it all went standy/campy and got dull. BWra3 map1 public was a good crack for a long time still tho :D roll on q4 for the RA and CTF .... can't wait!

Absolutely adored RA3. Especially in team games, but as Wazz said, it became all CS-a-like, and thus very boring. Lots of camping, and when things FINALLY kicked off, they lasted less than 30 secs.

Oh for the heyday when both teams ran round like mad bastards in 1s and 2s actually LOOKING for the opposition.

:)

Still got it installed on my system now, and best of all I get decent framerates now (5¾ years after release): 550fps in demo four. Rah!

:D
