No real advice as such but it is a great place to visit the 4 days will go really quickly!

You could hire a scooter if you wish to explore the city and just outside of it. I did and it was a great experience but it can be a bit dangerous as people drive like lunatics!

Enjoy yourself!

No, but watch out for scammers trying to sell things from their cars, they'll just mug you.

This is the map we used when I went to Rome with GF for 1 week.

Google Image Result for http://www.paradoxplace.com/Perspectives/Rome%20&%20Central%20Italy/Rome/Rome_Maps/map_of_rome_7.jpg

in those 4 days you have you can pretty much see it all with time spare, also.

Restaurants? its hit and miss tbh...

If I were you i'd plan my route because its very, very, very easy to get lost :) Our first day we didn't take a map (doh) we got lost alot and missed alot.

(edit):

do not get a bike or car... drivers are very dangerous and I mean dangerous... walk everywhere is best idea... so many things you will miss if you did decide to get a bike/car...

I strongly recommend you walk everywhere... I did with GF and we saw loads
