EA is pleased to announce that the Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome expansion pack has GONE GOLD and will begin to ship on Tuesday, February 4 in North America. The multiplayer focused expansion pack will give players more of what they have grown accustomed to with the original Battlefield 1942, including more maps, more vehicles, and more fighting forces.

The Road to Rome will focus exclusively on the key, yet largely underpublicized Italian and Sicilian campaigns of WWII. Players can choose to fight on six new maps including Operation Husky (Sicily), Operation Baytown and the battles for Anzio, Salerno, Santo Croce and Monte Cassino. Each map comes with highly detailed environments such as Italian houses, Mediterranean trees and even the ruined Monte Cassino Monastery.

Controllable vehicles are the heart of the Battlefield 1942 experience and The Road to Rome will feature eight new vehicles in addition to the more than 30 in the original title. These include the German BF-110 and British Mosquito twin-engined fighter-bombers. Also debuting are Italian and new British and German tanks and anti-tank guns. The original Battlefield 1942 PC game will be required to play The Road to Rome.

Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome is being developed by Digital Illusions of Sweden and published by Electronic Arts under the EA Games brand.

me wonders if the italians change sides mid game?

Poll: Who's going to buy TRTR ?

You're about 2 months late with the jokes mate ;).

Quick poll then, who's actually planning on buying TRTR ? Given it's 6 new maps, a few more vehicles, new skins on players and a few new weapons (i.e. extra models+skins), I'll be boycotting it unless something FORCES me to buy it (like ending up in a clan that has to play the maps at times).

I'll be buying it, esp since it'll be about £16.

Aye, I'll be getting it, I imagine Clanbase will request it as well.

*hands up*

While I'm stirring up trouble .... what does BW need to do in order to support the addon?

And will they do it as soon as it comes out? The servers were updated with the patches very quickly, and the fullgame servers swapped from the demo ones the same day it came out.

Will the same thing happen?

I gather that the 1.3 patch will allow RtR people to join normal servers. I'd expect 1.3 to be released slightly before or on the 4th of February so people who do buy it don't end up having problems getting onto the servers.

Having feck all money due to having to replace dead PSU, and going to a LAN. Well, that's two of my reasons.

If I can still get public games without TRTR without too much hassle I see no reason to get it tbh. Modders have already done many new vehicles/weapons/player models, and there's that Pearl Harbour map/mod too, so *someone* is able to make new maps. So, like, why PAY for essentially the same ?

-Ath, who'll probly give in around March or something when he's SURE he can afford it.
