It seems that a company I'd ordered €130 worth of goods from based in spain is completely fraudulent. After speaking to the RBoS hotline 5 minutes ago theyre saying theres nothing they can do since its an international order, but is this true? Isnt there something they can do against such blatant thievery? Even if I dont get my money back, isnt there anything else they can do? maybe contact the authorities

Regardless, I have the western union details of the thief, you need to supply an address with if you wanted to make the money pick up (can you use a fake address with westU? I was under the impression they verified these things), and I also have his bank and account details.
Anyone know what I could do with these? Perhaps contact the spanish bank and see if they'll investigate the matter, or find his phone number somehow and contact him personally.
Or any other suggestions, other than to be careful when ordering from international 'companies'. I really feel the need to do something, whether getting my money back or something else that'll hurt him.

What you can do with Western Union is set up a basis whereby he can check that you have paid the money, but not collect it until you release it, say when you have the goods for instance. Or so I am led to believe. If this is the same scam that has been running on ebay for a couple of years, then more fool you for being gullible enough to fall for it.

I think we would need a few more details though, to make that kind of judgement. So I shall refrain from calling you a gullible fool until the picture becomes clearer.

Honestly, ask to speak to the boss of the person you spoke to.

It's kind of hard to believe that the bank can't do anything. More likely they just don't want to, and they'd rather you go away.

Keep asking to speak to someone else at the bank untill you get the answer you want. Be persistant and you shall at least get...... something. Possible some satisfaction.

bank transaction, western union was an option but I didnt use it. I'll phone my local RBoS branch where I made my account tomorrow morning, it might turn up something. All the transaction records will still be there

very frustrating :(
I didnt realise banks have such little power re-calling international transactions after theyre made.

Next time use a credit card, automatic insurance (at least in this country).

Never buy anything where they won't accept a credit card payment especially if it's abroad. It's scary how many scammers are now on the net. Just look at ebay at the high end digital slr cameras. Personally i suspect that 50 percent of them are scammers. They don't even try that hard. Offering £5000 cameras at less than half price and only accepting bank wires or cheques.
That and it's so easy to hijack accounts with good rep or even set up fake rep on there.

These days I never look for bargains, I go with suppliers who i can trust even if I have to pay a premium.

Stolen from Ebay:

Never pay for your item with an instant cash transfer service such as MoneyGram or Western Union. These services are like sending cash to a stranger - they are an extremely unsafe way to pay.
