Indycar's have similar driver safety to 1994 F1 car's + going in circles at stupid speeds isn't racing anyway.

All you have to do is look at how the fueltanks exploded on impact, nasty business R.I.P. :(

It was very nasty, Indycar is dangerous and moronic, and I really can't stand it. However the above 5 lap salute is one of the best memorial's I've ever seen in motor racing and actually bought a tear to my eye this morning.

I'm not a big fan of the McDonalds of motorsport (F1), but come I'd never heard of him when he had such links to our drivers and had won it twice.

Same thing with all fast car sports, these things happen and it's like being a cop, have to accept it to race.

Shame for the loss, didn't know the man, or his achievements so can't say much more.

It's not the "same thing with all fast car sports" - there are risks involved in all fast car sports but those risks are greatly exagerrated when you put 34 cars on a very small track with very tight banking. A lot of the drivers voiced concerns about the race beforehand.

And, I'm not understanding the link between McDonalds and F1... but Wheldon was never part of F1, he was a great part of the lower formulae over here before he went to America.

RIP, it's a sad loss.

Don't take it too literally, didn't mean it's exactly the same risks, just the same thing in relevancce to what i said next.

the fact of the matter is; you can always walk away if you think it's too risky. It's a choice they all make, knowing the risks.

I originally posted about Dan dieing in the F1 thread, I get the feeling there will be some real questions raised about this since there were complaints about the possibility of such a crash before the race since the track isn't big enough and they had a lot more cars than usual.

RIP

RIP, it's a sad loss.

He used to be a rival to Button apparently in their early days, F1 is the McDonalds of motorsport like Starbucks is the Mcdonalds of coffee.
Corporate products all nicely packaged for the masses.

Job wtf are you talking about, first of all Wheldon was never an F1 driver and this crash has nothing to do with F1 so lets just put that aside.

Secondly the crash only took place because yanks think it is clever to race around a tightly banked course with a 34 car grid at 230 mph with the equivilant of 1994 F1 car's (fast and unsafe) 3-4 drivers could easily have died there, i love how the commentator says "Nothing could have been done over that incident" well how about updating your car's safety and actually race on a proper circuit designed to have speed and safety with corners designed to slow the cars down/make them burn off excess speed.

What Horny Corny said

But, doesn't isn't racing real life? - therefore it's impossible for you to like it.

Horrible, horrible accident. The risks of any motorsport are well documented but this has been a bad week tbh.

Sadly it tends to be one of the few remaining ways to get killed on motorbike racing.

The current suits have airbags in them but sadly they won't do much when you get hit by two other bikes esp when one of those bikes rips the helmet off you head.

Only way around it is time trial racing but I guess that'd be daft!
