I have no idea why I put 2010 in the title.

Let me guess. He does his "guy from the office" routine over and over and over again. I can't be bothered to watch it.

He has routines? Or characters? I've always just seen gervais, then it's gervais, and then gervais. The man makes jack black look like a non-character actor :D

He's a top writer (and obviously presenter). His stand-up is shite tho. :)

I hate him with a passion. He's not funny in the slightest and makes me want to rip my own arm off just so I have something to throw at him.

Someone was watching old episodes of Friends yesterday...

Funnily enough the Gervais-hatred seems a lot stronger amongst women; my missus, my ex-wife and an ex-girlfriend all loathe him.

I could join that club, where do they meet and do they bring their own teddies?

Not that i mind gervais, he's just...well...he's nothing really. I don't love him, or hate him, he just is. As is the comedy he does, even if his writing skills are good.

The Office was good, Extras was great, his stand-up is the same material over and over and I don't really rate him as a presenter. Put him and Stephen Merchant in a room and Merchant is much funnier imo.

I thought that was an excellent monologue, perfectly suited to the event.

I hated The Office though, and his stand up is generally awful.

I diisliike Merchant fairly intently too!
I don't need to rewatch Friends Dagaffer....I have a bit of a wierd eidectic memory for things that amuse me, so can regurgitate large chunks of dialogue from Friends, Red Dwarf and Monty Python to name but a few!

I thought Merchant was brilliant as one of the voices in Portal 2. I can't stand him otherwise though and he was the reason I didn't play it for so long.

Weirdly me too. Don't know what it is - just can't put my finger on it. He was great in Portal 2 tho.

Still - he doesn't rub me up the wrong way as much as Gervais. Hated the Office (I intensely dislike cringing and cringeworthy comedy). Liked Extras (good writing). Disliked his standup.

Merchant is a smug, superlative, sanctimonious and conceited unfunny twat.

Saw Merchant do his stand up show back in October, it was one of the funniest stand-ups i had seen. I like Ricky Gervais too, i saw him do his Fame stand up at the Apollo, and thouroughly enjoyed every second. Shame he had to tone last nights Globes down. Now they are saying it was a lackluster performance, well yes it was, based on last years slaugtering he gave them

And for the record while i'm going against the hate tide, i love my iPad and James Corden too

oh....and i saw Robbie Williams at Knebworth and i thought that was great too

*takes a step back to wait 80% of FH to implode with hate*

Gervais' first two standups are exceptional, has nose dived a bit since then.

In general he's not as funny as he was 5-10 years ago but he's still a lot funnier than most.

The only part of his show that I remember and still lol at is the elephants "caught" swimming 3 miles off shore.

I have yet to see Merchant live, I expect him to be brilliant tbh.

I just watched the same sketch from Out of England, will be interesting to compare them directly. :)

Reminded me when he was on the Simpsons as that is pretty much the only place I've seen him before. Horrible episode, besides the last 30 seconds
