It's hard to tell what's happend here, but I'd have to say Rhodry isn't on my 'asshole' list.

They few times I've met him, he's always been pleasant enough. Perhaps your friend caught him on a bad-hair-day

armado, im pretty sure he knew of derric.. and this is not the only person I've seen around with similar nicks to some known inf *cough* niar on exc *cough* or entreri artemis or something like that has also been seen, so he send me a msg with name derrik asking me what weaps I use, why would he care, their crafted anyways and nothing he can even think of, apparently he deleted derrik after a while and then making a char named infil is just a fucking laugh, some kiddie trying to make fun can just go hide imo.
And it was apparent he was trying to pull a joke, got to say he got the worst imagination in the whole world.

A first time player wouldn't me wise enough to know /who 50 or such, atleast I didn't when I played beta before pretty long.

Said nothing about that he had to delete, I just disliked him naming himself by a known inf, which I would hate if someone would do to me.

As for the point I think you are trying to make:

Not everyone might be as "imaginative" or "in the know" as you are (I am sure I ain't - don't have an infi, though ... ).... Although, so far it seems to be mainly "imagination" in insults or put downs that I seem to notice in your post, but, hey, maybe that's just MY lack of imagination ....

Try a chill pill now and then, it might help ...

Maybe you should try to see it as a compliment.

Asking if he was aware that a simular nick was used by a high lvl infil might have been a better choise than to flip out on sight.

You know, it is becomming very difficult to slip around names of level 50ies or old high levels who have moved to another realm, you can even have an old char lying around for ages just to see that suddenly, there is some level 50 whos name is very close to your own. It is not often people choose a certain name in the attempt to hurt others.

I recently generated a Character on Prydwen and I initially callled him "Grishnak" (From LOTR) I noticed it was taken and chose "Grishnakh" instead.
I didn't see any problem with this.
So what if I have a similar name to someone else?

Its annoying, people might make a mistake, or mistells. Even if they write /send Grishnak the send comes to you, if the real one isnt only.

Besides, too many Legollllas' out there wielding bow.

Now there is so many that you have reached the point where simular names are unavoidable...

Reroll as a Hunter instead and you get a daily-basis challange and no name troubles.

But still, you might want to consider expressing your hurt & sensitivity in a more constructive manner in the future; you probably disagree with me there, but I have found that people tend to be more responsive to complaints or criticisms if you do not insult or riducule them .... - you never know, people might even change for the better

Nope, nor did I mention anything about Veralith, but derric and derrik, one little letter that you pronounce pretty much the same, thats what makes me angry. And if you ask me your name is not very similar to mine..
Try getting up a name like derrik in name generator if you want.

Well, it's not the end of the world.
They message me thinking I'm someone else.

Besides, In this case, since the other person almost certainly also got the name from LOTR the spelling of the name the way I spelt it is the correct way (Grishnakh) so I claim first rights to it.. (JK)

I dont see the problem personally. So they have a similar name - look at all the Merlyn, Merlien, Merlines out there

I got a mate whose character name is Kev. I do a /send to Kev and it goes to some dude called Kevin. The problem seems to be that the game will allow abbreviations in sends for those who dont like typing a whole name out.

Many people will do it by mistake. There is/was an infil called Reggi out and about in the BG. My mate (new to the game) rolled one called Roggi - was he copying? No, its the name of his dog!

im not saying Derrik was from the name genrator, i was simply saying mine was (incase you wanted to complain about it).

what i am saying is, prehaps this person was new, wanted to be called derric, noticed it was taken, and went for Derrik instead. there are lots of names like that. personally, if there is one name i want, and it is taken, i will go for something that sounds similar, or use a name i already use (if on another server). after thinking of a suitable name and finding its taken i usually cant be aresed to find or come up with another, hence me using the name generator quite alot, but alot of those names arent that liked, to much of a pain if someone wants to /send you

Aye, it seems that the best way to prove how uber you are that yelling to a guy who ask something. It seems that some ppl think the worst from the others (you thought he tried to mock Derric.)

I had an infi, called Malevolence - what i deleted after got some message why i moved to alb from hibb. Yes i didn't know that a quite famous Malevolancia exist on Prywden/Hibb.

Next time if meet an Axal, Korren, Vaulker "wannabe" pls, just tell them politely that almost the same names are in use and maybe would better if they change it...

How petty can you get. Its a game, any one can call themselves what they like.

Its a toon on a made up landscape. I mean how can you get so heated about a name that you have no right to trademark to yourself anyway.

Its something thats made up .. fictional .. I can't understand you getting so precious about it.

Its a game for fun why not play it as such instead of insulting ppl and making the experience a lesser one for them.

Some times the 1337 attitude of lvl 50's really bugs me. just cause u got there and killed loads of ppl in RvR doesn't make you a better or worse person than anyone else in the game. But insulting ppl because their names are similar just show you as the arrogant person you have become.

First he asked something and I told him there was a lvl50 inf called derric.. and some more but can't remember, still he acted like I-don't-know-what and said it's almost same name. He said something like i dont understand, have had fake-ppl bugging me many times and he seemed pretty stupid/or just having a joke, like the 10 others ive had previously.. and he kept replying to me with some shit replies which made me starting to get pissed..
And btw.. he didn't delete it so don't talk bull about me made him deleting. With members like Franken Stein lvl21 cabby in same guild I don't know what it's all about.. if their serious about the names or just pissing people off, well the second alternative he managed with atleast.

You seem convinced he used the name as a joke, but there's an equal possibility he had no knowledge of Derric, until your introduction. Just something to consider, that's all.

This story has truly changed my whole life.
I lost my job,my carkeys disappeared and I can't remember where I put my cigarettes.
I haven't eaten in 3 days or slept in a week since I learned about this infil having almost the same name as me.
Somehow I'll try to get over this horrible tradegy with the loving support of my friends and family although I have to admit it will be hard.

Ive just skimmed this post, as i didnt want to read the whines. I have a level 50 minstrel called Asmodean, there is a lowish level Wizard called Asmodeaan, the only problem i have with such a similar name is that people think its my alt. I dont really mind the name being similar, i usually /cheer at the guy when i see him : )
