I got Rez on DC ages ago and can honestly say it is ......... overrated.

There are a lot of fans of it over at the Edge forums but having played it under optimum conditions (ie. lights out, sound pumped through my Amp with Subwoofer on) I can still find no love for this game.

Sure, it's well done and the tunes are snappy, but the game is pretty boring and repetitive. Style over substance.

yep tis good

I just downloaded it the other day, is a very very good game (tho im still just learning about it really).
Seems to play very similar to Panzer Dragoon (which I still prefere).

Actually, any pointers would be good.

Yeah i seen the edge forums actually which is why i was interested in what u lot had to say.

Style over substance? U have a point there but the real point is the lack of substance, because that is what i love about this friggin gorgeous game.

I like games with depth as much as any one but Rez is so simple and beautiful no less complicated than say panzer dragoon it really doesnt need anything more than what its got.

The bosses are completely warped and insane, stunning graphics, awesome soundtrack and i fail to see why no one can like this game (silly i know).

No game has ever took me in quite as much as Rez, its bloody mesmerizing and sometimes thats all i want from a game... To be sucked in, just battered the 4thlevel boss (the running guy) during the day without lights down (well thru my lovely marantz setup ;)) and its without doubt the most involving game out there.

If there is a god there will be a sequel

edit; There is a point in the game where it just clicks in your head and makes total gaming sense, not a religous experience (lol) as some of the edge forumites are suggesting but its definately gaming nirvan. do urself a favour and try again

I gave it plenty of gaming time when I first got it. Got to Level 4 and gave up. Don't get me wrong, style wise it is very well done and the way the vectors fill in the better you do is genius but at the end of the day it is an on rails shooter and it bored me very quickly.

Cosmic Smash on DC was another game which was supremely stylish but played shit.

Maybe i just have an affinity with strobing lights and thumping music :D

Still its not an experience too dissimilar when you playing Wip3out and you just merge with the game and the real world disappears

Headfood ;)

Rez is brilliant after lots of joints.

Wipeout is a bit harder after lots of joints.

(To understand Rez, you need to be high imo)

I beg to differ. Both games are emminetly stylish, some would say minimalist in their approach to conveying modern day video games but both are flawed by their lack of gameplay.

When I bought both games I was in awe of them and was delighted that Sega were willing to take such risks with these games on my beloved DC, but on further play - especially Cosmic Smash, I found them wanting.

Both games are worth a shit load now though so I'm hanging onto them - along with my copy of Space Channel 5 Prt 2. ;)

Rez cost me 20 quid for PS2. Why on earth you'd want to pay more for a version on a system nobody bought is completely beyond me.

Things on dreamcast are precious...

And anyway it was cosmic smash i was after but sadly cant afford £65 :(

£50 maybe ;)

Glad to say i just got my Saturn replaced, £23 on ebay wasnt too bad, stuff sega related is just so beloved by me and i much prefer the 'look' of Rez running on dc hardware, 30 fps only compared to 60 but no ghastly jaggies and i hear it looks sweet thru the vga box, may have to get hold of one actually...

and that has anything to do with the quality of the game because...

Err, just cos the console wasn't popular due to Sonys ability to convince the stupids to wait, doesn't mean it was any less of a quality system.
MSR, Soul Calibur, Ikaruga - either exclusive or out first on DC.

For a so called adult, your perception of things is amazingly child-like.

I bought a ps2, does that make me stupid?

no.

Most people never bought a DC because it a distinctly average console. I waited. I got a better console.

It doesn't look like bodhi has the child-like perception here.

think....

Did I say being a PS2 owner and stupid was all inclusive? Nope, Im just saying that the mass market were convinced to wait. If you believe you got a better console then well done.
You did miss out on a *good* year of gaming, with arguably the best fighting, racing and shooting game on any next gen (dreamcast, ps2, xbox, cube) console.
But to say "don't buy it cos of the system" is just plain daft. Is tempest 2000 any less wonderful because of the sales figures of the Jaguar? Nope, but you could still have purchased the bastard son of Tempest 2000 (tempest X) on the PS1.

I have no problems with the pad, but I also have 2 Arcade sticks for my DC, along with 2 x maracas, 2 x Lightguns, steering wheel and a para para sakura controller. :p

The DC is a great console.
