Respec help...

I have a Lvl 24 Void Eldritch.

He is specced 100% Void and nothing else.

I find this fine in PvE, because when my bolts hit (miss about 35% of time) you'd best believe they hurt :)

However, RvR is a frickin' waste of time. My bolts always seem to get blocked - even by another players mez FFS!

Bearing that in mind, I'm considering a change when the new patch is released.

I believe 100% Mana is the way to go, but I am more than happy to listen to suggestions.

It's very frustrating to be able to do such uber damage in PvE, but then be unable to replicate that in RvR :(

TIA :)

Additionally, could you explain the pros/cons of your choice regarding deployment in both PvE and RvR?

TIA :)

void is best to go till about 40 , then you'llbe able to respec to mana or light and all be happy!

Well I get a full respec anyway, plus the additional one at Lvl 40, so may just go full Mana anyway...

Thx for the reply :)

bolts are great, especially for knocking running minstrels and skalds from speed, you just have to remember they are less effective against enemies with shields and totally ineffective against people already in combat

Come 1.52 :

A NOTE ON BOLTS

A quick note of explanation about bolt spells. As every "robe" caster knows, bolt spells are intended to hit targets that are not in combat. They do much more damage than direct damage spells, but they are usable only in certain situations. A bug was fixed in 1.52C which changes how the game determines if a player or monster is "in combat" - now to be truly flagged as in combat, you must actively be attacking someone (or something) else. Previously, large numbers of players would be flagged as "in combat" when they were in fact not actively engaging someone. So, theoretically, that change made bolts easier to use in RvR, although they still will not be usable in all situations.

Thx Luuna :)

Does that mean mobs/chars that are mezzed/stunned will be classed as in combat or not?

"...actively attacking someone..."

I'd love to see a stunned/mezzed guy "actively attacking" :p

No, mezz/stunned people will _not_ be flagged as "in combat" when this system kicks in.

Trying to convince myself not to quit the game...
I reckon I will have managed that in a day or two.
Quitting or convincing... hmm... bah.

I enjoy these forums more than the game right now...

After seeing Trelawney in action I'm sure that your void Eldritch is a very good choice. Seeing Trel even made myself start a void eldie alt. :)

The real power lies in the hands of the light eldritchs. :)

First, thank you for kind words Aranor.

Whilst it is true that many Eldritches on the US servers do favour Light Spec (for understandable reasons), I believe that once the balance of power changes, Mythic will likely look to redress the balance to keep all spec lines attractive and with +/- s, as it should be.

I do try watch my fellow players and and try to compliment them, rather than just Nuke Nuke Nuke. For example I can bolt Ranger's target, Nearsight Wizzies/Runies/Hunters/Scout, AOE keep doors, PBAOE Lord Room, Attack Speed Debuff grouped Meleers, Stun attackers off fellow mages or to (as you guessed) Nuke Nuke Nukety-Nuke.

Personally, here is why I enjoy being a fully specced Void Eld:-

First bear in mind that even with Low Spec Light and Mana, with good item and Realm Rank bonuses, you still have access to a wide range of Light/Mana spells that are very effective.

For
==

- 2 Bolts - Great vs casters in Keep defence/offence. Bug being addressed in 1.52 will make these even better. On a good day I hit my cap of 1011 + 879 Crit Dmg in 1 bolt (on cloth armoured casters). On a bad day (if I am silly enough to waste a bolt on a shielded tank), it will do <200 - less than a DD.

- AOEs - Benefit of PBAOE plus range - great on 'enemy' doors/gates, although slower and slightly less dmg. My record is 27 hits in one AOE during Relic Defence - Great for the RPs!

- GTAOE - 1.52 AOE without the hassle of a visible enemy target - wonderful!

- Void DD - sure slower and a tad less dmg than Light, but uses less power, so like a Duracell Bunny, we can keep going when other Light Bunnies run out :) Effectively L65 Void - my Void DDs and Crits can hit like a brick sh!thouse, so I have no complaints.

- Stun - we get the best (Light) spec Stun in the game, granted at a greater Pow cost, but you should only need 1 stun at best per target if you use the remaining 9 secs wisely....

- Light DD - we still get the best L50 Light (baseline) DD in game too, granted at greater Pow cost and less dmg - but fantastic when speed is most important. Often if I see the Dmg of my Void is being resisted too much E.g. 260(-140) - I quickly switch to Light DDs to do the business E.g. 280(-70).

- Nearsight - Even the L9 (Light) Nearsight debuff will compromise the enemy's ability to outrange you, full 2300 range and at worst - it scares the enemy to know that you can reach them that far away!

- AE Mezz - Hey even L4 (Light) AE Mezz for 10 seconds is often enough (even vs L50s) to give your team enough time to get an advantage. Don't underestimate it!

- PBAOE - Despite being fully specced Void - I still have a good enough PBAOE (as good as my AOE) to defend the Lord Room vs attackers with my Mana Bomb fellow casters. Also good at destealthing SBs/Infis at Keep climbpoints.

- Careful use of Realm Abilities can help maximise your choice of spec.

Against
======

- Slow (4 sec Bolts/AOE).

- Bolt blockage (semi fixed in 1.52).

- Resists - now this does hurt - Cold resist is the most accessible resists in the game so my best nukes are commonly resisted by 30-35%.

- Less Dmg (lower cap too) than full specced Runie or Wizzie - but I think if you play tactically on your other strengths (e.g. Stun) - this isn't so much of an issue.

The most common question I am asked by new players is "What Spec is best for Elds?". I can only reply "No one is best, else we would all be it. It depends on the type of Eld you want to be...".

Sadly the next most common question is "Which one does the most damage then..." <sighs> oh well...

www.mypetmage.com is a great resource for a clear list of Hibernian Caster Spell Lists and effects.

My last piece of advice is simply this:

The grass will always 'appear' greener on the other side. Blow your one respec in haste to find it isn't, and you may wish wish you'd waited to get the whole picture first...

Carpe Diem!

Easy to decide imo:

2 bolts + aoe dd + gtaoe = Void
Nearsight + THE dd + mezz = Light
manabomb + snare dd + aoe dd with debuff = Mana

Choose the spec you would love to play (or live with) and roll it. You will have fun, nm what you choose imo.
