I'm doing my Spellcraft suit at the moment and wondering about resists.

I read on a website, being a merc wearing chain, that I am resistant to crush, is this true?

Also, what resists should I try to cap, and which are less important?

You have an inherent 10% resistance to crush. You have no bonus or penalty to slash resist. You are 10% vulnerable to thrust.
Most important are: body heat cold energy. Spirit and matter are debatably useful.... matter is AE DOTs, all weapon DOT procs, and some other shaman spells - root, disease etc. Spirit is middie PBAE and also a few weak crowd control spells, which being a merc (and thus, I assume, having determination2+ :p) you don't really give a cack about.
For a merc I'd say your priorities were to cap dex, str, qui and con, hits, cold/heat/energy/body resists, +weapon spec and +parry, then if you can fit anything else in, stick it into matter and spirit.

Oh.... and if you can afford/bear to use a temporary suit until 1.63, the following is possible in 1.63 with only a single 100%qua piece:

Anyone know of a list of all the updated epic rewards (ring, cloak, etc) in 1.63?

Sounds like something from my epic set, but I dont think I have one :D

magical resists

If you can't cap all resists, leave spirit and matter low 10% - 17%.

Be sure to cap ( 23% - 26%) your crush resist, a lot BM's, hero's, champions, skalts,.. are crush, and they hurt if you don't have crush resist.

Ignore the overcharge success chances in that SC plan. As Draylor said, they'd be a lot higher if i wasn't too lazy to set the gem qualities - but, the sc calculator has the wrong formula anyway. All of them will work if you have a 1000+ spellcrafter and use 99%qua gems. (or even, as Simius usually does, 2x 99% and 2x 98% per item) A lot of people have done a lot of suits at 4 or 5 point overcharge, and I've never seen a blow-up yet.

As for ignoring crush - well, be honest, ARE you a crush merc? No, didn't think so :p
Crush is a pretty lousy damage type for an alb, and the styles are not so wonderful that people choose it over slash (great styles) or thrust (great damagetype). Anyhow I'm sure you can work out that the +thrust is freely interchangable for slash OR crush, whatever floats your boat...

The ring of shadowy embers is your lvl43 quest epic ring, but at the moment it has - i believe - similar but inferior stats. In 1.63 I believe you return it to your trainer and he hands you the one used in my plan above.

Well, actually I am <blushes>.

Im not fussed about the slighty less damage I apparently get with Crush, the important thing is, (and most people seem to forget this), this is just a game. I enjoy using crush, I like the styles and I like the way that I play my character, so I'm sticking with crush :)

Featherlight Granite hammer has 2.2spd. Fastest crafted offhander is 3.0spd. And well.... I don't think there is a single crush weapon that comes close to a featherlight.

Use a FLGH offhand, with a 4.2spd War Hammer mainhand for best damage = uber 31% haste when dual-wielding.

What would it be using a 3spd offhander?
And would the 14.x-dps offhander vs 16.5, make up for the loss of haste?

(edit: not to mention the crappy stats and proc)

merc epic ring... so I'm guessing it gets stats (heavily) upgraded in 1.62/1.63?

As i said above - it's the merc epic ring, gets an upgrade in 1.63.
As, btw, do all epic rings. Nearly all over 45 utility in 1.63.... been trying to collect the stats but it's surprisingly hard to get VNretards to just post the goddamn stats of their epic rings.

why would you want a fast mainhand? you want SLOOOW mainhand and fast offhand.

and yes, the slow mainhand is the 16.2dps weapon :rolleyes:

I should also point out that there's 4.5spd hammers with cleric-oriented stats (Fate's Gavel, for example) which would be an even better choice for mainhand for a crush merc (and I believe you have a simple enough job capping all stats even with 2 stat-gimped weapons).

And as far as 16.5dps weapons go, surely thrust is 2.9-3.4, slash is 3.6-2.6 (seems best to me?)
And if you're going to use 16.2... then slash is better than crush, again? 4.1-2.6...
