I am a third year Student Nurse and for my final assignment I have to write a 2500-3000 word report on something I want to improve within my current working environment.

I have chosen to look at improving the written information given to people who have had major heart surgery...

The thing is i have never written a report before (only essays) and although I have a basic understanding of what I have to do, I just wandering if anyone had any good pointers? or know of any good websites or resource books that I could use to help me structure it correctly?

We had to write a 10000 word report for our final year projects and we had to follow a specific layout/structure. In the end it looked rather spiffy and professional when bound and printed.

http://scm-projectnet.tees.ac.uk/projects/docs/project report/frreport.htm

It's for computing courses and such like thouh so may not be good for you. General guides that might be of use (that we had to follow) was 1.5" left margin, 1" top, right and bottom (because it's bound on the left) 12 pt times new roman font with seperate relevant sections and where necessary sub-sections.

Include an Introduction, maybe an abstract.

General overall format was 'Tell the reader what you are going to say, say it, tell them what you have just said' (intro, main, conclusion)

Hope it helps in some way, good luck.
