Replacement Paladin Template, comments welcomed please

People seem to be in a helpful mood at the moment as regards providing constructive criticism of spellcrafting/artifact templates. Some people may be aware that I lost an Ancient Copper Necklace not too long ago in unfortunate circumstances so I have had to rethink my template anyway, and below is the best balance I can currently come up with between stats, looks and useful artifact abilities. And it is balance, not just stat-maxing, that I am after, so please bear this in mind when commenting on the template.

I know it would possibly be useful to get some more Quickness, for example by dropping one or more resists below 20% (which I am loathe to do) or sacrificing one or two artifacts - but as anyone who knows me in-game will tell you, I am more interested in roleplaying and having fun with my character than just in being effective in RvR and PvE, and as such Kalthorine's "look" in the game is just as important to me as his stats - hence the template contains a number of visually striking artifacts such as GoV, Shield of Khaos, Crown of Zahur and Bane of Battler. Also, there is more to an effective character than just raw numbers and I want to keep the extra powers granted by the artifacts listed here, which I think go well together for a defensively minded blockbot support paladin.

Apologies if I seem a little obsessed with getting this right... anyone who knows me should be aware that despite an ostensibly affable nature, once I get passionate about something I find it hard to let go. While I appreciate GoA's reasoning for why they can't do anything about my lost Ancient Copper Necklace, I am absolutely bloody mindedly DETERMINED to get a replacement template that if anything is even more appropriate than the first one. Nothing gets me riled up more than a perceived injustice... it just so happens that this time I was on the receiving end. :)

I think it's hard being visually striking as an avalonian, at least in a good way. :(

Loose SoM if your a grouper, it's utility is NOT worth it, and in Group RvR the ablative just is not worth the trade-off for what you could have gotted instead.

Nicely high UV cloaks are Cetus' Hardened Skin, and Feathered Wrap.

Personally I'd recommend the Feathered Wrap due to it's versatile resists (and uber UV),

On the template itself (as Paladin) I would go for capping Hits Con/Dex/Str, although I haven't capped Dex at all on my template (only +10 or so), +101 Con is very nice, and so is +101 Str as is +400 Hits (this gives my Paladin the same HP a Merc would have in an SI kit).

I know you said that it isn't that very muchly PvE nor RvR orientated, but what else is it for? If you just want a Roleplaying template, then you'd atleast want to go for Unique looks... ML6.10 BP/ ML9.4 Cloak (or ML7.8)/ Wings Dive/RoG's from any zone.

There's look for ya :p

On a more serious note, to what I above said (Con/Str/Dex/Hits capping), the hits/con are just very important due to it being Dark Age of Castalot in RvR, that and a lot of hits will also help you tanking high level Monsters (MLx.10 bosses, HighLords/Princes in DF) if your the Hero type of Paladin :)

Also, I'd get Battler for looks, and Level 10 charge, but Malice for it's usefullness.

Hope my post has helped at all, and really, if your just going for a Roleplay set, make a seperate one countaining, for example, Aerus/Stygia/Volcanus RoGs (Oceanus is so last-year :))

Surely as a Pally it would be important to cap ur quickness so you can make full use of your damage add chant, just my thoughts, btw, chek ur PMs kalth...

If I remember correctly & the /bonus on my sorc was displaying properly avalonians don't get matter resist but spirit resist. When I get home I'll check again (this does mean getting nekkid but it's all fun).

Can anyone confirm if the /bonus display is wrong for Avalonians?

This is getting too much fun, so here is another try :)

I have taken on board a number of comments about elemental resists being less key than other areas (although I still didn't want to drop them any lower than 10%), but have kept Body and Matter resists high since they account for a lot of DoT procs, and also Poison damages from those nasty stealthers. Because I no longer desire to max out all these resists, it has allowed me to cap important stats AND extra hits. And it wouldn't really bother me, either, if the Avalonian bonus WAS for spirit rather than Matter - in fact it might be even better if it was :)

I have also taken a break from the norm and included a non-full plate item of body armour - Enyalio's Boots (studded AF102, ABS 19%). This is purely because I get so frustrated with losing speed out in the Frontiers and then playing catch-up for ten or twenty minutes, that I am happy to sacrifice a few points of ABS% on an armour item that isn't hit very often in order to give me my own source of caster speed without having to run to find the nearest Hastener! I will still carry round a pair of spellcrafted Arcanium FUll Plate boots with similar stats for when we are defending a set location, but knowing how forgetful I am when it comes to swapping items, Enyalio's Boots are designed as part of the main template.

That's complete and utter bollocks, Dots/Roots(the other CC) and even some debuffs are "usually" (except for debuffs) Matter Based.

I agree... and most debuffs are "Body", hence Body and Matter are the only two resists I am really bothered about (other than melee)

matter is useless, or almost anyway, and get heat and cold capped(cold is darkness nukes/heat is enchanter nukes), trust me, you'll hate yourself for not capping those 2
