Replace a Dead HDD on xbox?

Hi ive got friend with a none chipped xbox, but the hard drive has diead. is there any way of replacing the harddrive without chipping it?

Probably less hassle to just buy a new one on ebay. I doubt they cost a great deal now.

I got loads lying around. Trouble is I think you have to have the same hardware id key per mobo/hd. I think there is a way around this but I lost touch as my xbox now does all i want it to.

I think youll have better results contacting MS direct even if out of warranty

yeah, tried various diff guides today of xbs site. none work, bios locks its self to a hard and you need orignal xbox hdd. shame:/

£50 for my old xbox if he wants it yaks. In perfect condition, with box and manuals.
