I'm a tailor and repaired Tyka's armor and it went ok
btw, don't try to repair your epic armor yourself till 1.54 where u get the SELFT CRAFT. Before this pacth u need to drop it on the floor -> LD and say byebye to your armor

Any time you repair anything, there is durability loss at a fixed ratio of condition repaired:durability loss. The skill of the crafter only determines his chance to successfully repair or not for each attempt. There is no difference in a repair done by a high level crafter or a NPC smith, except price.
Many quest reward items - including epic armour - have durability set higher than 100%, which is not displayed. The first few times you repair it, you will not see any dur loss even though there is some, because the dur is still above 100. You will only see the item start to degrade when the dur hits 99 or lower.
