One of the main traits of the berserkers of old was that they'd disdain armour - some say they put on the skins of bears or wolves instead - and charge into battle nigh-unprotected, trusting in the sheer unmitigated fury of their attack to keep them from harm's way. That said, berserkers were also said to be able to withstand an unusual amount of injury and still keep fighting - stories tell of fighters who'd been disembowelled, who simply cut their own trailing guts off to keep them out of the way and then kept on fighting. Of course, this would invariably be fatal once the berserker rage wore off.

So, chain armour? I think not.
