I thought I'd just about scraped through the recession by the seat of my pants, but today I got wind of the fact that there are cashflow issues at work and that there may be redundancies coming up.

If that's the case and I'm selected, what sort of notice would I generally be entitled to?

My contract says that the company needs to give me one month's notice to terminate my contract, so would that be one month PLUS any statutory redundancy period (I've been there 2 1/2 years, so two weeks) or do they just need to give the two weeks notice and that's me out of a job?

Notice period + statutory redundancy so if you're entitled to 2 weeks redundancy thats a total of 6 weeks pay.

Been there mate, so I feel for you.

Cheers.

I could just be reading into things, but I've seen and heard a fair bit of circumstantial evidence that it might be coming up soon.

I'll just need to see what happens I suppose.

There's supposed to be a consultation period as well, it depends on how many people they are making redundant.

I believe it would be just the one position, and it would either be me or one other person that would be up for the chop.

Only the once for me and it was the best thing that ever happened to me work wise. Got out of a shitty career (accountancy) in a shitty sector (employment) with a nice big payout which meant I got 2 months off over Christmas fully paid and a nice payout too.

The employment agency I worked for treated us reasonably well though and gave us the option of moving and re-applying for our jobs. Not all companies will do though and as you say its not a relocation redundancy but a hard times redundancy they may not have the funds to "pay you off"

Your best bet is to have a word with ACAS and see what your rights are and indeed the rights of your employer.

It seems that tomorrow morning there is a "company meeting", which was rescheduled from today due to delays in preparing the end of year accounts.

Can't say I have a good feeling about it :(

Well that was unexpected.

The company is being wound up and we are *all* being made redundant, the directors too :(

This brings many sads to me. Best to turn a new leaf and head straight for the jobhunting sites. We could double-team if you like.

Good Luck anyways, I for one know you will need heaps of it.

Bad news Billy, hope you land on your feet and that the pay off carries you over the holiday season.

Statutory + accrued holiday pay, so not great.

It should see me through to the New Year though at least, and hopefully I'll be able to pick up a contract position soon.

I just pray your finances are in order and you haven't been living beyond what you can afford.

We had a friend who got made redundant and they had a few credit cards/loan in the end they lost the house and everything they had to move back to her mums house with 3 kids 6 months later they are divorced.

Im also being made redundant due to "restructure", my leaveing date is 17th december. Ive been here 5 years and getting £3.8k+last months salary. With that im hopeing to pay my car loan off of about £1300 and clear my credit card of £1000. Then my outgoings will be very small. To be honest im not that bothered, i hate my job andway and have been looking around for a while, so rather then leaveing for free im now being payed out. My only worry is not finding something straight away, although ill just do part time agency stuff if i need to tide me over.

I was turfed last year for the first time too. Was pretty chuffed about it as I hated the place and did actually march into the office earlier in the year with the intention of quitting once only for my boss to be too busy to see me. Cooled off and 5 months later they made me redundant. Was actually smiling when they told me. I got 3 months gardening and a very handy little sum.

Walked into my current job as soon as my gardening leave had finished and enjoying it much much more.

That was my situation. I suppose the point I am trying to make is that the grass can be greener.
