hhmm, this isn't really the ebst place to ask for help, but the redhat forums suck :(

can anyone help me get my dialup modem working with redhat?

it's a 'Creatix HaM Data Fax Voice'. both KDE and GNOME cant find it themselves, so i guess i need to download some drivers that will work with linux?

ive tried the intel site, but its a load of shite, anyone help? :(

you'll need to come up with the exact chipset dudeh :)
and what Embattle said is quite true. 'known' modems/chipsets are much more likely to be supported.

hhmm, windows wont tell me any info on my modem..
heres all i can get from the device manager:

manufacturer: creatix polymedia GmbH
hardware version: 002
:/
the drivers are by ambient.

i presume this is what you eman by chipset info? besides yanking the pci card out its socket and seeing what it says on the label i dont see what i can do about it. someone told me to /proc/pci in linux, so i did, and got this:

Yeah, what they said. You could consider getting an external modem, then it's just a case of talking to the port it's connected to which is a bit easier.

in IRC managed to establish its not a winmodem, and that it should work fine, its on port 3, so was trying /dev/ttyS2 , yet no joy..? any ideas

Au Contraire, it is a winmodem, as a quick look on the manufacturer's site shows.

They say it works (under Linux) from Suse7 upwards, so maybe the newer distros have winmodem support

no, there were drivers written for this modem by some bloke.
had problems with the 2.4 driver due to the way rh stored the kernal source(or rather didn't).

so i compiled 2.2.20, got it working fine, installed the driver, and nothing. it just didn't do anything.

after reinstalling redhat choosing software myself(i found out it hadn't installed apache...), i found i had the kernal sources where they should be, and was able to get the 2.4 driver working.

it's all nice, but i dont like mozilla much, displays everything..weird like.

with RH, konquorer is packaged with KDE..so if you use GNOME no konquorer...

i could install the RPms i spose...what is it like compared to mozzilla / IE on windows?

my main grief with mozilla and netscape is that they cant get the right raitio for displaying html. it allways looks either too small, or too large. i've got it at a reaosnable compromise, but it's not great.

and another thing is the pluggins. i need the flash pluggin, partly because the forum i frequent most (linkee in sig) has a few flash logos in a rotation, and some idiot has a flash of around 8 muppets scrolling accross a banner size thingy as his sig...
so everytime i load the page, i get boxes telling me i need to download the pluggin. the problem is, i have the pluggin! but mozilla doesn't seem to autodetect them like netscape does (should do, since ive never used it). it is the linux pluggin, it should work, but i cant really see how to add it manually since mozilla replaces netscape's pluggin manager with an overlycomplicated mathingy.
i could just delete the scrolling muppets flash(since its my sigits in :D), but i really want the pluggin :/

anyone know how to get pluggins to work right in mozzilla?
