recommendation for string

OK, I've thrown my cable modem out and replaced it with two tins and a piece of string (not a peice), I just wondered, what string should I use?

Spec:

386sx16 4mb ram win3.1
kwik save value beans tins
B&Q wax string

I'm only getting about 2400baud with this, what is wrong? My friend round the corner has a similar system, and he gets pings of less then 300 ffs.

Blue washing line nylon is your best budget string, should reduce your ping to 250.

I feel those kiwk save bean tins are holding you back, you need to go out and find some 1950s bully beef tins as these will increase your performance twofold minimum.

Do this! But make sure it's one of the better quality copper-core lines.
