Guys and Gals

Well, I shall soon be moving into my new place and I intend on having a movie / TV fest and chill out for a while as I have been going at 100mph for the last 2 / 3 months.

The TV I like are:-

Wire
Silent Witness
Only Fools
Red Dwarf
Blackadder

Movies:-

Bourne
Trading Places
Coming to America
Star Wars

so can you recommend anything along these lines? I must say, I am ashamed in a way Ive not seen any of the LotR films, maybe I should start there :)

If you like The Wire then check-out some of the other HBO stuff:

Generation Kill
True Blood
The Corner
Six Feet Under
Sopranos
Curb your Enthusiasm
Flight of the Concords

The other big one Tot already mentioned is BSG: Battlestar Galatica. I've yet to meet anyone who didn't think it was amazing. It will grab you by the nuts and refuse to let go until you've seen every last episode.

SO SAY WE ALL!

I'd add that it does exactly that, and you hate the series for it 'cause at times you want to kill yourself from boredom :D

Am I the only one who loved BSG season 1 and 2 and then after that only 2 or so episodes of season 3-4 were any good??

I would have stopped watching mid season 3 but friends said its good :(

Been watching House MD quite a lot lately. Its probably not everyone's cup of tea but I like it. I am up to season 4 now...I think season 6 is airing at the moment.

Nope, i too thought it went too much into the god/relationship thing and less into the "run away! Survive!".

1 and 2 were great, kept interest on, but 3 and 4 felt more like they were going through the motions to get the motions into an end.

Perhaps the most annoying part was the whole deal with Starbuck. That could've been a rock solid character that was a fighter pilot and fighter pilot alone, throughout the whole thing.

Check out "Breaking Bad", Hal from Malcolm in the Middle plays the main character (and does an amazing job). Long story short he is a chemistry teacher who decides to become a meth cook/dealer when he finds out he has terminal cancer so that his family will be financially stable.

Amazing series, 3 seasons of it now as well.

I'll second the House recommendation, I mean Hugh Laurie & Robert Sean Leonard, don't really need to say anything else.

Apart from that, there's 2 spy shows that are sort of entertaining - Burn Notice and Chuck.

Yup House is a must for me also :), also Heros as it was ok until the 2nd part of the 3rd series for me, Dr Who, waking the dead. Lots of others but that is all I can think of at the moment

I'll 5th the House vote as well. It's been the best thing I've seen in a long time. Since the West Wing in fact (which I am currently re-watching), which I rate as one of the best series ever made.

Ran across this one myself by accident on Channel 4. Very amusing in places, very gritty in others. Quite a good one.

Just started watching Burn Notice, very impressed. Like an updated A-team / Mcguyver, great stuff.

Burn Notice is awesome, one of my favourite series of the last few years. I've seen everything shown so far and champing at the bit for more. When Bruce Campbell and Sharon Gless share a scene its always shiny.

Also recommend...

Castle - great fun crime thing with Nathan Fillion and Stana hotty.

Dollhouse - quirky but overall good, some of the later episodes are just brilliant. Since it was announced it would be cancelled they've dumped the dragging out of the back story and got straight down to it... just like they should have from the start really.

Most of the other stuff I would recommend has already been mentioned above. Unlike some of the nay-sayers I liked series 3 & 4 of Battlestar Galactica and enjoyed the extra depth.

V - only 4 episodes and by the last its paranoia central.

Movies:

Up. This is just a brilliant film. Dug is probably my favourite ever screen doggy.

Transformers 2: Say what you like but big fuckoff robots beating the snot, erm... lube oil, out of each other is just great fun. Throw away pretentions and just get the popcorn in.

Star Trek. Could have got a more interesting baddy but everything else more than makes up for.

Moon. One of my favourite films this year. Understated all the way with sly humour thrown in (I completely missed what was written on the food trays. When it was pointed out to me I laughed my ass off). Avoid learning anything about the plot beforehand or you've just wasted the whole point of seeing it.

Gran Torino. I think this counts as last year but I only saw it this year. Loved it.

Outlander. Great sci fi hokem. Very cheesey, very fun.

Watchmen. Thoroughly enjoyed this, many didn't.

District 9. Great film.

Looks like Scrubs has officially ended according to Zach Braff on Facebook

Many of you have asked, so here it is: it appears that "New Scrubs", "Scrubs 2.0", "Scrubs with new kids", "Scrubbier", "Scrubs without JD" is no more. It was worth a try, but alas... it didn't work. zb

The new show didn't quite live upto the v1 show, but seems like its end of an era now! The ending they had for the recent (last) Scrubs episode was weak for a final episode. Very weak.

Guess they put everything in their basket on the final episode of Season 8 instead.

Byebye Dr Cox :'(
