Realflight G3 - R/C flight sim (the best you can get)
Freespace 1 - space flight sim (the best story ever)

MS combat flight simulator, X3, IL 2 Sturmovik, Wings of fury.... quite a few good ones...

subspace :p

what type of flight sim?

for fighting or just fly?

ms flightsim 2004 with the FsPassengers 3rd party addon is quite nice.. gives flying in FS2004 a bit more meaning, purpose etc..

for fighting, dunno.. but Falcon 4:Allied Force is damn hard :p

Forget flight sims - go for FreeSpace 2 \o/

I-WAR 2 >>>>>> Freespace 2 any day of the week ;)

not that those 2 games are flight sims but anyway ;)

and yes MS flightsim is probably "the" game if all u want is fly around pushing every button u have on the keyboard (and a few u DONT have to)

if thats not enough X-plane will probably do it for ya ;)

probably THE most realistic flight sim u can get atm, and u CAN get a free version, it sux tho as u loose control of the plane after XX time.

Crimson Skies is a great flight-fight sim imo! Still deserves a place on my shelf :)

Can you rent them by the half-hour? :D

I think an hour for Pilot Training or their monthly checks costs around 10 k (USD). But, if you speak to them nicely and turn up at around 2 am you can have a go supervised ofc.

I have had a go on A310/A320/A340 and B777 Sims and you get totally imersed in them. Especially the 3d moving axis ones. One of the demo's I have seen on B777 sim had a Lancaster flying by where you could see the shadows moving on each rivet of the skin. The graphics were amazing and that was 2 years ago.

Well Tilda =) So you like reading forums, which means you might like long reads :p

In that case I can tell you that Falcon 4.0 will be an interesting thing for you. You can play from "totally easy" to "freaking hardcore" mode, which means essentially that either you get your mission and shoot some, or you get your mission, you check the wind, you start your machine, you get out of fuel and have to do a manual air fueling. Your rockets fly at a precise physically correct line and the handbook has a dedicated chapter for this alone.

So basically if you master the hardcore mode, you can skip the first 3 months of pilot school =)

Overall I totally liked it and my friend and I had a blast playing it over network =)

Wow ok, so I just tried falcon 4 today its cool, but I still die :(
its probably because i'm not used to it, have never flown before, havent read the manual and am using a keyboard rather than joystick but hey :p
My mums going to post my joystick down so I can have a go with that :D

Liloe, you arn't a pilot are you?! :p

Does anybody have any tips for a novice? landing, taking off, not getting into a dive you cant pull out of? the eject button?

nah =) I'm not a pilote, I'm a lazy student =))

With joystick you should be able to fly much better and don't forget the following: there is no "turn right/left" in the air so what I found out works best ( and prolly is the right method but I don't know anybody else who ever played flight simus ) is to tilt (right word?) to the side you want to move, then pull the joystick towards you. It looks a bit sick at the beginning but when you get used to it it's really fun =)

Oh and if you want a perfect landing, I got no clue how that works =) I never managed to get that to work, but I guess you have to go down with not much speed and press some super special buttong that make some moves with your jet =)

EDIT: radar evasion works in Falcon 4.0 so if you fly very near above the ground, radar missiles cannot get you. I remember this pretty well: LOOK LOOK, I'm flying only 20m above the water....SPLASSSHHHHH...ups, I touched the joystick too much =)
