I wants one! My 6 1/2 year old 17" CRT is finally starting to go on me, so I fancy a real step up to a 20" widescreen TFT monitor. I've narrowed it down to the NEC Nec 20WGX² vs. the Dell 2007 WFP...

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/guides/dell_2007wfp.htm

...versus the NEC 20WGX...

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/guides/nec_20wgx2.htm

...if I buy the Dell direct from Dell themselves, it'll be £285 inc delivery. The NEC seems to be ~£400. The only real concern I have with the Dell is the slower response time, 16ms being a bit slow for games IMO. The only real concern I have with the NEC is the glossy screen coating, apparently makes colours look a bit artifical and is of course very reflective of ambient light.

Anyone got one of these and care to tell me what you think of it?

I'd go for the Dell ... better value for money, the glossy would piss me off and the 16ms is fine for gaming. 8 would be better but 16 will be fine. (IMO)

I use the Dell 2005 and it's brilliant, no problems with response times even playing FPS's. Got it 25% off direct from Dell - bargain imo :)

go to this website:
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/selector.htm

plug in the features you want and the price your willing to pay.

My choice was between Viewsonic VX2025wm 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor and a Dell 2007WFP.
I went with the Dell simply because of the extra features and it is HD ready.
It also will scale lower resolutions (Dell's 1:1 pixel mapping) without the aid of Nvidia Fixed aspect, so was the selling point for me really.

Breakdown of the monitors:
Dell = Lots of input options, good responce time, good colour and contrast but a little back light bleed, better for games because of the pixel mapping BUT 16ms responce time

Viewsonic = very nice but no scaling so its all on the gfx card really, but a slightly better picture and slightly faster responce time, 8 ms responce time so half the speed of a dell

Philips = same as the dell but with less inputs

NEC = best overall, very nice monitor but imo (this is my opinion only ofc) isnt really worth shelling out an additional £200 for, offers little bit faster responce time and has the usual inputs.
But imo if you were really bothered about responce times you would get a CRT

on a side note , i personally would pay £10 more from ocuk and be assured im not getting a refurbished monitor, dell are renound for repackaging monitors and shipping them off as new, and we both know what Dell technical support is like :)

Both are very good, doubt you'd be diappointed with either, possibly another one to concider is the Viewsonic VX2025wm 20" Widescreen, also got good reviews and right ups, and has built in speakers.

Last option is 2x Acer Al1916W for the same price :) have to go to Amazon though

Edit: didn't read Chronictank post fully, only saw mentionning of Nec, Dell and Phillips

i've been looking at the 24" version of the dell wide (1920x1200), but dell pricing policy is really weird, its the same company, but the prices change alot depending on country

and if you order the dell, i have a tip for you, ask for a lower price
i asked dell about the 24" and immediately got 200euros off the price, just by asking

i'd go for the 8ms viewsonic, 16ms may be ok for daoc but it wont be for fps/driving games imo

A true 16ms panel is just fine for all types of gaming, the problem is that alot of older 25ms panels were mis-sold as 16ms panels a couple of years ago and the same thing is now happening with most 8ms panels infact being 16ms panels. The DELL 2005 has served me well for the last year, it is a terrific gaming panel, true 16ms produces no smearing or ghosting.

completely wrong to be very honest,
you will only notice the difference between that and a CRT, my newest purchse is a dell and i have a older 19" Viewsonic sitting next to it and dont notice the difference unless i look very hard.

If your a hardcore gamer you wont use a LCD/TFT at all, full stop

Go for what you prefer svart, they both have their faults but you wont be dissapointed with either

p.s LCD widescrens usually work at optimum using 1680x1050 resolution, there is very little point going nay higher :)

no, you said you cant play fps games on a monitor with a 16ms time which is downright wrong a casual gamer wont even notice the difference, which he very obviously is for reasons mentioned above repearedly and below.

i posted a comparison of all the "best" monitors within the category (sp?) svart specified so saying a purchased a inferior product is a very naive and norrow minded view as the product has all the various benefits which compelled me to buy this particular model, more acurately the 1:1 mapping without need for hardware support aswell as being HD-TV ready which is becoming ever increasingly important as its being pushed by all major manufacturers.

I also have said it over and over and over again, if you are a hardcore gamer who cares particularly about having the "best" responce time you wouldnt even be looking at a LCD in the first place as they are all inferior irrespective of brand.

Try finding new CRTs any more, most manufacturers have stopped or are stopping making them.
