while doing some research i came across the age restricted sales, which to me seem very fucked up.

take the sale of offensive weapons knives, axes or any pointed object which can be alterd to cause harm cannot be sold to people under 16. the punishment for such an offence is up to£5k fine and 6 months in prison.

booze cannot be sold to under 18s, except liquer chocolates cannot be sold to under 16s. max punishment - £1000 and possible loss of license.

but sell an under 16 a lottery ticket or scratch card and you face upto 2 years in prison and a 5k fine.

why the hell is selling lottery tickets to under 16s more dangerous than supplying them an offensive weapon?

because the law is an ass, when they think up stuff like this its not carfuly concidered or thought out they just pick a number from a hat, the law is full of contradictions and inconsistencies.

Becaus the kid could win a WHOLE lot of money to buy offensive weapons.. now instead of having a kid running with a knife, he is now running around as an armory supplying weapons to all of his friends.

Can't a 16 kiddie buy a lottery ticket in UK?? In norway you buy as many as you want as long as the $ can keep it... insane punishments for it :S

it reminds me when they increased the fine for speeding on roads... Get caught 5000 kroners in fine, but dealing heroin 2k kroners... makes me wonder what "tea" they were drinkin on the parlament when they made those laws, if you get what i mean.

tbh if someone under 16 won it would be highly unfair to them, they couldnt go out and drink to celebrate, couldnet get in any clubs, couldnt go to a nuddey bar blimey they cant even have a fag of stab someone from the sheer joy of it!

you wonder if the lottery would even pay out to an under 16 year old, as being over 16 is the only rule they have really for winning

i doubt theyd paid out as you have to be over 16 to buy it, and also you have to be over 16 to sell them.

i just dont get why the punishment is tougher than selling an offensive weapon.
its probably on par of being in possesion of a small amount of heroin.

I think its just the law falling behind in what penalties they set. Back when they did knives and tobbacco, 6 months was probably enough to scare people not to do it.

Thats just crazy then! Maybe they feel that paper cuts are more of a threat to society than a huge meat cleaver!

I suspect it was because they wanted to be seen to be tough on those who sell to underage people in order to get the Lottery voted through parliment.

It's because kids are dumb and don't understand things like addictiveness. They're easily influenced and no-one wants a nation of 12 year old gambling addicts.

Kids should be hanging around newsagents trying to get older kids to buy fags or porn for them with their pocket money not wasting it all on scratch cards.
