Rebuild me pc with me =)

Right.

My pc has been built for me by 3 people. I am not happy with its performance, it regurlarly drops 2000 3dmarks for a reason i have no idea about and i know that 3dmark isnt the end all of all benchmarking programs but its relevant to what i use it for, ie games.

Athlon XP1800+ cpu
256 DDR 2100 Samsung RAM
128 DDR 2100 Unbranded RAM
60gig IBM Deskstar HDD 7200
20gig Fujitsu HDD 5400 (mp3 dump)
Soundblaster 4.1 PCI
GeForce 4 Ti 4400 (Creative)
Lite-On 40x CD Burner
Samsung DVD/CDRW 16x
Floppy Drive
Windows XP Pro

I get 8700 3dmarks which is ok but since realising that this wasnt good enuff, i managed to increase it to 10500 for all of one night. I did this by flashing my bios. Went back to it the next day and back to square one. I have tried installing the via 4in1s (not convinced theyve been installed tbh) latest drivaers for all my bits but i am convinced that its bios related (clever chap me =)

I have millions of cables running around in my pc and i am sure i can cut some out by using the cables like they are meant to be used, i notice two ponts on the fat cables (ata?)

What i want to do is disassemble my pc and start again. I dont mind having to format my pc if i have to. Or if anyone can suggest a way of making sure my 3dmarks stays like they should do, most games run fine but my neverwinter nights and battlefield 1942 should run better imo. Nuff said, if anyone can help id really apprciate it. I am relatively new to all this so go easy too =)

Its real simple to do, but not so easy to write down.

Use PCMechanics guide.

Just rip it all to bits, down to the bones, (do you want to keep your stuff on your HDD?) and start again.



Or bring to my house and me and my 3yr old will do it (might get a bit of play dough in there, but hey-ho)

So apart from your 3dmarks and Gaming Performence on some Games, your PC is pretty Stable? Have you setup your GraphicsCard correctly to get better performence?

Yeh thats waht i wanted, an url to tell me what to do, my pc is relatively stable yes, but fucking annoying too. I needed to know whether starting from scratch is indeed a viable option seeing as so many people have fitted components apart from a couple of pci slots and the agp slot which were done by me.

So i assume blutack is ok if u havent got any silver arctic?

and super glue, put some super glue in the fan aswell, gives it some extra 'grease'

Really cant see how a rebuild will make your pooter perform faster, particularly if you are keeping all the same parts.

The only benefit it will have will teach you how its all put together.
