Don't know which to go for. Want a good class for RvR in new Fronties ... Reaver sounds like fun but merc seems more the class to go for rvr due to charge and storicism.

Not sure what your previous char history is but...

Currently, mercs are the damage dealing tanks chosen for RVR groups, simply because of the huge frontloading damage output (especially with the new HO race), and access to det.

Reavers, however, arguably take a lot more skill to play well, and are less commonly accepted into the standard RVR group format (lack of det). Damage output on reavers can be mind-boggling, and utilises many more positional and chaining styles than other classes. Soulrending is an exciting addition above a merc, adding variance to playstyles and specs.

Personally, I find merc incredibly dull and monotonus to play, with a constant same-old-same-old feel to them. Reavers, on the other hand provide much more of a challenge, and can keep interest levels up.

Reavers do get improved further in NF, but we are yet to see how
accepted they will become.

Both do excellent damage and both are very nice tanks, merc has less chance to be mezzed/rooted/stunned for a longer amount of time whereas reaver is a very good interuupter. With new frontiers coming they will be very nice, only problem is their low weaponskill so you get some misses now and then whereas merc weaponskill is stupidly high.

Doesn't matter really what you pick, though i would roll a caba if i could start all over again or even may sc my theurg. :p

So reaver if you want decent damage/interupts and merc if you want damage/not cc'ed hardly either.

Can't go wrong either way.

If you play on Camlann the reaver is a great pick. You'll be able to solo in PvP easily and groups accept you cause of your guarding/interrupting ability. And lack of det is not a huge problem on Camlann where FotM group setups are quite rare.

Nope Mercs do more Damage over time. Arms with 0 qui and 6s pole would have huge frontloading :D. a 1h weapon doesnt frontload so well and as merc you should really have capped qui + haste Charges / or theurg haste all the time to maximise your damage with the slowest possible Crush / Thrust weapons.

As for the Poster, both are a good class but the Reaver is a more solid choice. With NF there will be alot more Keep takes regardless of whether ppl want to do them or not and as a merc you will find it harder to keep busy than a Reaver at keep takes. Also with Det nerfed you can now partake in fg rvr just as well as a merc as you have your own little tricks the merc doesnt have to play with. Every Tank will get aom5 now instead of det5 so besides the base det mercs get you're on an even footing CC wise and the cap before was 'Huge' : x.
